Hahaha, the truth is that it’s a thousand times better than the other stuff shown. I haven’t had the fortune to listen to the first album where Eat Eat Eat is included, but at least I think that in this second entry it’s on the right track. The truth is I loved the song and the video, they have a lot of energy and fire.
fianlly the guitar is back let’s gooooo what an upbeat song! lyrics are kinda mid but the sound is fire
edit: i’m mad he did not get into the robot
Suddenly he sounds like a japanese musician again😅
It’s not as impressive as Kabuki Rock or What’s my Name but hey, it’s an improvement compared to the last release.
Is this the first time in a while where he actually sings? Feels like he’s just “rapping” since the last few albums
i think so!!! I super missed him singing, so it’s nice to hear that again. it isnt Kabuki Rock but its a good step into the Miyavicore we all got used to and loved imo
That’s a surprisingly enjoyable track given how dull and soulless I’ve found almost everything else he’s done for the last 12-13 or so years. Hopefully he can start tapping more into that sort of energy going forward.
Jig mainstream era
Its only boring song, typical mainstream english songs. could put a few demo~samples of 30 seconds to mars songs for example to see how meh is it… its only copy and paste sounds.
Wordless
kinda makes me laugh how silly and boring his music is now
he could actually make the idea in this song somewhat work if he was willing to do something less diluted in this sea of production blandness and lack of balls that has been his career for the past 10 years
and I’m not even talking about going back to any VK weirdness or all, he has a couple dance pop songs that may not be great, but at least feels like they weren’t written by a chatgpt prompt like Real?, Dancing with my Fingers, Our Love, Imaginary and yet seems to be doubling down on the most barebones, without character songwriting he possibly can
like. i know i’ve said “i am not the audience”, which is exactly how i feel about We Stay Up All Night. i love the guitar solo and parts of the instrumental, i just. who is this for??? how are there still people defending this as “the best thing ever”???
i know youtube dot com comments are filled with questionable brains and questionable ears. i’m genuinely curious on who is this for if every single miyavi fan i’ve talked to misses his old stuff?
there IS such a thing as nostalgia blindness. but if we compare the “old” vkei artists like the gazette, dir en grey, hell even kuroyume to name three off the top of my head - you find fans from every era who can wax poetry about everything from gauze - phalaris, from disorder - MASS, from ikiteita chuzetsuji - kuro to kage and all in between. everyone has their opinions on what peak era was but can argue their compositions only got better with age and experience.
this of course isn’t to shit on, or complain or say meevs is talentless. if he’s making music for himself and he’s happy with it, great!! we love that for him! i love seeing bandmen happy and thriving. but like, who is genuinely a fan of this and prefers it to his other tracks??? what do you like about it? please let me look at your brain my neurodivergent ass does not understand
As a person who literally just shot her own music video literally with the only prep being putting on makeup and finding the perfect way to position the camera… I agree. IF EVEN JUST A CHEAP “SET” LIKE THIS WAS A CHORE TO PREPARE, LET ALONE A WHOLE PROFESSIONAL SET WITH PROPER DECORATIONS, DANCERS, AND FULL ON OUTFITS. What a waste, I don’t see why he didn’t just make a whole MV out of it… It’s like decorating a mansion and preparing a huge feast for hours only for the party to last 30 mins.
maybe his kids or something, this newer stuff does smell like gen z/alpha audience …
y’all need to let this man live his “uninspired stuff for kids” era, personally I’m happy enough with two bangers this year (that’s Running In My Head and The Water Party Song as I named in my heart)
edit: honestly though maybe I’m blaming the younger generation for stuff that’s just his preference maybe he just likes edm a lot … if u think about it Miyavi made Teddyloid famous even
Thing is, he definitely has a huge audience that is enjoying what hes been doing, one could argue that hes at his all time high popularity-wise
his streaming numbers put most of his sempais to shame so sadly I dont see him growing out of this boring ass phase
Can somebody explain to me how Miyavi got his superstar status? I never knew why he got so popular even overseas. Back in my day he was able to break out solo and do well for a JP artist that had roots on vk but I can’t put my finger on how, why or when exactly he exploded so much to be cameoing in Disney feature films.
Why he was in a Disney movie: Angelina Jolie befriended him and wanted him in Malificent 2
Steady growth surely. I feel like there were many steps but I can only talk about my own experiences/perception as a casual fan like:
- early 00s was the post hide era so perhaps people were particularly attentive to skilled guitarists in bands
- attracted more attention than the rest of Due le Quartz and got a solo contract
- did a bunch of japanese media appearances playing acapella and random pop stuff despite the background
- vk was popular overseas then and he spoke English comparatively well so he did that in lives, also in youtube’s beginnings some videos like the Selfish Love with the solo one did pretty well
- played many lives overseas, got more popular. Fun fact here in Brazil he was the first vk artist maybe? I think Charlotte had a concert before maybe … or maybe they disbanded before the concert? So the lives were in 2008, 2009 and by 2011 he was playing in a normie festival that had the likes of Simple Plan and Duran Duran (SWU) and I remember some classmates talking about him (granted many classmates were weebs but) like “yo there’s a dude that looks like a lady and he plays damn well” lol
- married an up-and-coming Japanese-American singer which usually helps with language and such
- eventually starred in that Angelina Jolie movie which came as a surprise to everybody, she liked him and the rest is history I guess lol that was pretty controversial in Japan bc omg how dare this half-Korean portray our land in a bad light but hey that’s fame too lol
That’s so stupid … he didn’t even knew he was half korean for quite some time of his childhood… lol… (nothing against you for mentioning it. Just wanna point out how absurd this was…)
SKIN → yoshiki probably slipping his name to a couple people he knows in the US.
he lived in LA and attended an English language school there for a while sometime before recording kavki boys releases and doing the world tour with their material.
