What’s going on?
Edit:
that took me too long to understand
Batsu was Jrock Cringe personified.
Batsu (Rest in piss), was a super active J-Rock forum in the early 2000’s. But active for all the wrong reasons. There was lil to no real moderation, and it legit ran like one of those TV high schools but on much more crack. The flip side is that i learned a lot about different bands via that site and I’ve made some great friends on there, some of whom I still talk to today. I believe a few are here as well. The site owner stopped giving a shit about maintenance and it got overran by bots. Eventually, the domain got snatched up by some rando who’s using it for their ebay store.
A few strays migrated to the “new” site, Fukkatsu. It was fun there for a while, but things got heated way too often, and it, too, began to get overrun with bots due to lack of upkeep, I think.
MH and TW are legit the only 1 (or 2) sites that stayed the course. I’ma give cred to that mod team for standing firm and keeping things fun in the spirit of VK/J-Rock. If not for them (y’all know who you are), Id have no more community in this space. And I love this space because its played a big role in my life.
Thanks for NOT BEING TOXIC AND CRINGE (to stay back on topic).
Ro & I actually became FRIENDS through the discourse on Batsu/Fukkatsu. It was amazing, because as one of the shit-stirrers on that old site, things got pretty fucking out of hand. I’m so grateful that I got to be that little gremlin at one point. I now see it as cringe worthy, and I wouldn’t change any of it.
To be fair, MH was so overrated. Besides the content, it was an outdated platform full of spam, consistent self-promo, and pirated links visible publicly resulting in a DMCA strike from the past making it login only permanently.
The founder of MH was no different from that of Batsu or TW. Never paid for the server and the domain name, had no idea of how to maintain the site, never carried the team or led the community given the position he was in.
The last generation MH staff was incompetent to continue the site and was even serving other communities, letting them take the MH assets easily, leading MH to the new low. Some of them even called me a site threat when I launched JROCK ONE without looking at themselves and the situation MH was in. Nowadays, they pathetically lurk on JROCK ONE on a daily basis with and without accounts.
The MH founder was just lucky to have had us helping. Without the people in the JROCK ONE staff team, MH wouldn’t even have existed. Without Kai supporting MH financially even after he left the team, it would have already ended in 2015.
This is a truth about MH that most people don’t know.
Until very recently i thought JRO and MCH were the same team just with a rebrand lmao
(personally i’m all for self-promo as long as it’s not w/ cringe tricks like fake accounts; i’ve started following a few bands/artists cuz they self-promoted on here!!)
No, they are two different communities. You aren’t the only person who is mistaken. Different teams, different founders, and different eras. To put it simply, the JROCK ONE staff is the senior MH staff. This is the only thing in common. MH shut down and we built JROCK ONE.
We allow only musicians to self-promote their music here of course!
Let’s pretend it was an educational necessary for a lot of people…![]()
I hope those kids are taking care of my rips that also were pirated… aah🙂↕️
these days I was able to buy almost every rare cd I wanted just for 300 yen, god bless pvres♡und…
Sorry, I read the previous posts and asked something that had just been answered.
That’s probably my fault. One does not simply run MH for a few years and then transfer over to JRO without people thinking they are the same. But trust me, this is a new start. It’s a new start because the old moderation team disbanded and a new one was formed in its place. Only a few people were asked to return, me included.
If it were simply a new phase of MH, then I would have said so. From a tech perspective we badly needed to upgrade but there was no upgrade path without a fresh start. It would have been way easier to convince people to come over if it were positioned like that. But it was a rare opportunity to start over with new expectations, and hopefully people would stop believing we were toxic. MH had its moments but it wasn’t all that bad compared to what it replaced, and JRO is the next step in perfecting online discourse about Japanese rock.
To stay on topic, I find people who shit on JRO and MH to be the most toxic group of the bunch. Even now I read about how toxic and elitist MH was and I’m left wondering how people cope with Twitter, which is way more toxic and has way less moderation. There’s a meltdown weekly, including the most recent one where someone was exposed for lying. The result was dog piling and callouts for no reason.
That’s more toxic than the staff taking the trash out when necessary? Or has the concept of accountability gone completely out the window and people have adjusted to saying whatever the fuck they feel like without consequences? Whatever the case may be, people who talk about MH without ever having been a part of MH is the type of soul sucking poser cretin that has infiltrated the scene and are dead set on being a better fan than you.
And people who talk shit about JRO without contributing to the community or even seeing what makes this place tick are no better. We see you. We have trade offs, an active news section, discussion threads that look like college courses compared to what I read elsewhere, and yet we’re still the bad guys. Can’t win for losing.
And if that’s not toxic, nothing is.
Yes, it’s Zeus’ fault. Shit happened and we all ended up having a much better quality of life here because of you. ![]()
Preciate it, homie. We don’t do this shit for thanks or praise, but it’s nice when we do recieve some!
Yeah just read a certain raccoon website, I was at a live where the vocalist stopped mid-set to scream at someone to get out, who was later alleged to have been a banned fan, I even got posted once because someone figured out I got a free ticket to a live from an ex bandman
