Mrs.Green Apple remove controversial video

:triumph: so true!!!
i just wiki’d white supremacy, a word i learned yesterday:
White supremacy is the belief that white people are superior to those of other races and thus should dominate them.[1] The belief favors the maintenance and defense of any power and privilege held by white people. White supremacy has roots in the now-discredited doctrine of scientific racism and was a key justification for European colonialism.[2][3]

Now that im fully qualified to analyze this and ANY response to it (including responses from people whose homeland has gone through colonization by funny europeans or, say, Japan haha)

  • unless the song specifically says “k*ll the n*****s”, etc.,
  • or like the music video director actually wrote in his notes “absolutely make sure to portray non-whites as non-humans, intentionally”

then not ONLY was it totally unintentional
it’s ALSO totally understandable that people from a developed country with a functioning educational system, low illiteracy rate, consumption of white supremacist American media for decades, AND their own colonizer history wouldnt have thought to question any part of this joyful pop video where Funny fake-Europeans discovered Monkey House and have A GREAT TIME teaching them how to use their own stuff !!! :triumph:

 How very droll, as if one cannot separate the art from the artist and not have a little fun with a play on words.

As someone who listens to a lot of black metal, “Burn Cross” is actually pretty tame and i dont imagine people being offended by this. If it was Burn Quran or Burn Tanakh then i bet people would kick off even though it is literally no better or worse of an act of blasphemy. Haha.

Very simple:
Christians aren’t oppressed. (There might be a few exceptions I am not aware of but mainly Christian oppressed other cultures)
Burning the UK flag or US flag can be used to represent the will for a country to liberate itself from its oppressors. But burning a flag of a country which currently still face heavy oppressions from other countries would only mean you want them dead.

Just to let you know.
Dehumanising is very essential for any kind of propaganda. You want to make your enemy look less humane so you can easier justify to “clean” areas from them. And to depict them as monkeys definitely does that part already.
You don’t need to be 100 percent explicit to make something racist. Actually the horror of racism is how easily it can be hidden out of plain sight.

I’d like to note one final thing here:

Perspective.

This should be common sense, but I understand how easy it is to forget that beyond the crazy usernames and avatars here, there exist actual people. People with diverse backgrounds (personal and otherwise), with vastly different experiences and perspectives.

This is important to emphasize when dealing with topics as touchy as this.

Why? Because as witnessed above, it’s far too easy for people to veer off into accusations and projections that do nothing but shut down conversation, and prevent any real understanding or enlightenment from taking place.

In this particular case, genuinely failing to see the racism in the video - doesn’t automatically make you some white supremacist, right-wing racist hatemongering incel. (and i’m talking about ppl who are actually sincere… not those just playing Devil’s advocate because you feel like being contrarian. I been a mod a long-ass time. I see yall.)

And seeing racism is this video doesn’t automatically make you a paranoid, SJW leftist snowflake that wants to see CIS white men burned at the stake.

If that’s the way any of you see things, then you are part of the problem.

I know that most of us are sick of this cancel culture nonsense and sick of living in a world where it seems like the act of breathing itself has become offensive. I’m sick of that shit, too.

But we should also understand that everything that we are seeing in the world today is the result of seeds that were planted at some point in the past. Things don’t just come out of nowhere. The world doesn’t work like that.

So it’s imperative that people understand that when things like racism are pointed out, that’s it’s not always just a case of someone looking to bitch about something. It’s not just the figment of some disgruntled person’s imagination.

Personally - As an African descendant of the Trans Atlantic Slave trade - I can confirm that stuff like that Mrs.Green Apple video invokes a lot of hurt, frustration and trauma for many people. Historically, our perspective has always been different from that of the dominant society’s perspective.

I’ve been called a monkey/ape/gorilla and mocked with monkey noises, and unfortunately, that’s been an extremely common experience for a lot of black people and minorities. Hell, you’ve got actual U.S. presidents on tape referring to black people as monkeys. There’s a very rich history of this and blacks being treated as sub-human, and even worse. Not gonna get into it here. Go do your research.

But I digress.

The point is - people get angry at shit like this FOR A REASON. These things have very REAL and tangible roots.

Now some people definitely take things too far, and some people definitely have some nefarious ulterior and underlying motives (like power, control, and weaponization)…but that’s a completely different discussion. People like that can kick rocks.

All I’m saying is…

We shouldn’t be so quick to lump people who are generally hurt and offended by stuff like this in with those who probably want to commit a white genocide.

Likewise, we also shouldn’t be so quick to lump in those who genuinely don’t see or understand how a video like this could come off as racist…with the KKK or the Third Reich.

Different perspectives exist. (Especially when it comes to figures as controversial as Columbus…I mean, SHEEEESH.)

Different perspectives will always exist.

Trying to shut people down for having a certain perspective won’t make it go away.

Trying to deny that certain perspectives are real or valid, also won’t make them go away.

Your perspective AIN’T the only one, and it most likely ain’t the “right” one either.

So humble down a bit and be open to the fact that you might not have all the information, and you might be able to learn something new.

I implore you all to keep this in mind moving forward.

…also I’m oldschool and I FUCKING HATE having to close threads. I be wanting yall to hash shit out like mature adults, but yall make this shit D-I-F-F-I-C-U-L-T. :joy:

Alright, i’m done imitating @zeus…with this long-ass post. I ain’t even mean to write all this. :joy:

Yall get it together. The world is full of different perspectives - yall better start figuring out how to interface with 'em.
