New band “BLAZE” has formed + new music video “MAYDAY” release

ooh, this already happened… then it seems not intentional @zeus

Nazare also had an akward start let this group grow for a few more releases and we might actually get another potential saviour of the scene.
I am glad to see various charming musicians back in the scene. Especially Uta and Hotaru Chan.

He was off in those lives but he didn’t sound like this. This reminds me of when Natsuki from OZ tried new things with his voice and it was a mixed response.

i think it’s important to give them time to get to know them better. They have an album on the way and scheduled live shows, so there’s still a lot more to see from them. Nazare also faced criticism in the beginning—just look back at the comments from that time on MH. Plus, in Nazare, most of the songwriting was done by Issei and Mio, so it’s not entirely fair to make comparisons this early on

I was never their fan but saw Nazare several times live during Taibans in 2019 and I don’t remember him as bad. He is trying much more difficult things than most vocalist in the scene and of course there will be times that he doesn’t hit it live. But compared to the rest of the scene, he seemed like one of the better “hard” vocalists. I was rather suprised to what he did hit more to what he didn’t. But I think overall their sound was not good transported live, especially also the guitar noodling. But to me, Issei was definitily the one I noticed beeing off many times. I remember seeing his last live with Dimlim and it was the first time I cringed for a Drummer as he was off all the time. His facial expression was annoyed the entire live.
One thing with Mio that stood out to me on the lives I went, he was watching every other band once Nazare finished their set, standing in the last row with the usual fans. I thought that was a nice gesture.

The issue with Mio is exactly the same issue a lot of metalcore bands ran into around 2010. This is when everybody was trying to sound high-pitch like a dolphin despite having no capacity to do so. Like sorry guys, but only the guy from Sleeping with Sirens can do it because his throat is biologically unique.

So Mio is trying to sound like what his throat is not capable of. His YouTube channel and releases are not a representation of what he can do. As I said, check out the dvd that was recently uploaded and you will see how his voice deteriorates with time.

I am not his hater, I love Nazare, I simply don’t like them live despite trying to

As someone who saw NAZARE live multiple times I have to say that Mio’s strong point as a vocalist was his stage presence more than consistency. However, the live music experience is totally different from listening to a record and so I’m not too bothered about how well the vocalist can perfectly replicate all the techniques they employed in the studio. What I will say is that their shows were always a blast and there was so much energy in the room. In that regard I would say that they were a great live band, though perhaps you had to be there rather than watching the recording.

As for this new vocal technique Mio is trying, I can’t say I love it but I think the real turn-off is just the switch to his regular tone for the end of the phrase. If he could keep that kind of fry into the higher notes it would sound much more cohesive. It’s not a terrible sound, it just mixes really badly with his usual vibrato so I hope he keeps them more distinct in other songs.

I hate to say it but I am also not vibing with that new vocal technique in the chorus.

I really like Mio’s singing and appreciate the experimentation so I am going to stick around for future releases!

Ok it might be growing on me.

I wonder if this is him experimenting with new sounds or a way to preserve his throat with a new technique.

Tsurugi (Sadie, Razor)
collaborated with the band

“I received a passionate offer from Mio-kun and Uta-kun, and I wanted to respond to it, so I took charge of the sound direction. I’m wholeheartedly supporting this new path they’re embarking on!”

and Uta quotes him

“From the very beginning, the two of us had decided that we wanted to ask Ken-san to handle the sound for the MV song. Thank you so much!”

The music itself is decent enough and Mio is good when he sticks with normal singing and normal harsh vocals but trying to mix the two is NOT working. When he does it during the first verse i was tempted to just turn it off then as it sounded so bad, almost like someone doing a joke vocal take. But generally yeah, the music was solid so will see how this develops. As always Uta is showing almost 0% bass skill. Haha.

Could you elaborate on it? I have seen him on DVDs and his parts were fine to me.

I just feel like he’s not a good bass player. He just always seems to do the bare minimum to get by and never actually utilises any skills unique to bass players like slaps, tapping and pops etc… and only ever picks. What he does generally works and yes it sounds fine but i feel like he cant keep up with more tech bits. For example in this track while the guitars are leading the way playing quite busy riffs hes just plodding behind basically just droning a single note and occasionally adding other notes in there when he can. I know full well the function of a bass guitar in music and that its not necessary to always follow the guitars but he never does anything that flourishes and shows any real talent at the instrument.

Compare him to guys like Yue from Kizu or dude from Misui (cant remember his name) who clearly are very talented bass players, utilise loads of different techniques, play some crazy stuff alongside the guitars and are interesting to listen to as an individual instrument.

Maybe thats a controversial opinion but its how ive always felt about his playing. While im at it, despite always having a killer look he also has pretty low stage presence from what ive seen. Haha.
