Good to know! I like the vibe in the first few rows and in smaller venues you get to feel a bit more intimate. Obviously it’s amazing being able to play in huge venues in Japan, but it seems difficult to get a good spot like in smaller venues. Just praying for their next EU tour, but damn I just realised they’re getting old lol (ruka is 45 what??)
Thank you!! You guys are so helpful, excuse me for all the questions and being to clueless ;_;
But oh man, I’m experiencing post-concert depression… I’ve been obsessively going through every single footage on insta and twitter and I just wish I could go to the other destinations and see them more than once. A lot of people seem to do that (looking at you Chris T_T), maybe that’ll be me after I become a full time working adult with money lol.
I have failed you guys. I’m too busy to write the live report atm. And tomorrow I fly back to the US. Today is the Köln show and I’m stoked
I’ll probably write about both shows together once getting home. But in the meantime I did post that video of Ni~ya getting “killed” in Paris on Reddit so y’all can enjoy that
The paris concert was incredible!! There more people than i thought. It was a dream come true, they was amazing! Yomi, to me have recovered most of his voice maybe due to the schedule he can rest a bit so it was pretty good. Their interaction with the audiance was so funny, a lot of people understood japanese so i think they was more relaxed about it. Each member said something. Yomi said it was great to see paris again since they came once for the japan expo 12 years ago. When it was Hitsugi’s turn, someone screamed “kakoii” so everybody was laughing and he seemed like flushing, i dont all remenber what they said but he have practice some french, he said “merci” thank you and “je vous aime” i love you. Sakito too said “je vous aimes”, Ni~ya remembered the last time they came to paris and said that he have always want to come back. And yomi asked Ruka what he had loved to eat in paris and at first he said orangina ( an orange soda, not specifically french) everyone was laughing, and then he said croissant. Before they played The world, Yomi asked us in japanese “do you know this anime, Death note ?” and he brought a black note, everyone was dead at laughing. He asked us what name must he wright in, everyone screamed the french’s president’s name, Yomi after a bit of confusion put Ni~ya’s name on the note. Everyone disagreed in the crowd so he was like "ok ok sorry sorry " so much fun ! Yomi had an red apple during the song and he threw it at the crowd at the end. They interact so well with each other and the crowd, they trew a lot of thing at the crowd, guitar pick, water bottles and Ni-ya even threw his towel. I didn’t miss the “kakatete koi” too and shouted for every member! Sakito’s solos parts marked the crowd on fire! And Hitsugi was so cute at the very end of the concert, when everybody else was off stage, he silent the crowd and shouted all out "je vous aime "
I decided to go to the show at the last minute and bought my ticket only 3h before.
I listened a lot to the band many years ago but was never a true fan, Yomi singing style can be annoying sometimes. I saw the setlist with Lost In Blue and Can You Do It? and decided f*ck it let’s go support the scene and I won’t regret seeing Sakito play live.
Long story short, I’m so glad I went.
First, Yomi style is really cool live and he sang so well for someone that had so many issues with his voice, he even let out a few screams. He engaged with the crowd a lot compare to others singer that I saw (cough Kyo cough)
Ni~ya had such a genuine smile during the whole show and I missed hearing some cool japanese bass lines (Toshiya was pretty low during DEG concert)
I don’t know if RUKA is grumpy or just shy haha but he gave 100% !
Sakito obviously had the most people cheering for him and he’s such a cool guitarist. I purposely went for the left side because he was 90% of my reason to go. I am glad I arrived a bit late because he almost knocked out the people right in front of me by randomly throwing a bottle! He was clearly enjoying his time and was playful with the crowd.
But Hitsugi was BY FAR the best in my opinion. His french pronunciation was suprigingly good, better than Yomi that was already impressive. He has so much energy live and had so many interactions with the crowd. I think at some point he put his dreadlocks on top of a bald dude that was front row! (I was on the opposite side so I’m not 100% sure). I think he also took someone’s phone and recorded himself or the crowd with it.
He was the last one to leave, stood on a platform while being unmic’d, asked the whole crowd to be quiet and just said merci beaucoup (thank you very much). The people next to me were very touched by it and I get, it felt so genuine.
I was worried about maybe having too many people with their phones out but it was not that bad. Surprisingly, many times Sakito, Yomi or Hitsugi pointed at a phone, got closer and started playing/singing right in front of it. I think it was Sakito that was almost on one knee at some point shredding in front of a camera.
People in the front rows probably had better fan interaction than the VIPs haha!
I saw a few VK bands live and always had a great time but Daisuke (RIP) and Hitsugi are the ones that left the biggest impression. So if you go see Nightmare live go on his side (even though they switch from time to time).
Yomi might have been confused as to what French people have against those little colourful almond meal flour cookies that they would want them written in the Death Note, so he wrote Ni~ya’s name instead.
Live report from in front of the venue. Saw Ni~ya smoking, saw Hitsugi running. Asked some ppl are they here for the concert, they said yes and turned around. If someone from the forum is here pls be my friend lmao
Thank you everyone for writing about your experiences! I agree their interactions with the crowd is so engaging and funny. I’ve only seen dir en grey a few times and yeah, they’re very “cool” and don’t like doing meet and greets lol, so seeing nightmare like this (also seeming to have fun and putting effort with interactions during the snapshots with the fans) is refreshing ;w; it’s so great how much hitsugi loves the cameras lol, he was looking and pointing at people’s phones and doing funny faces.
Also seen a bunch of footage of the death note thing oh god, that’s funny as hell. But omg I need to see footage of ruka saying he likes orangina and croissant lol.
I get the urge, I wasn’t planning to but after seeing Kamijo in the summer, I bought tickets for the tour final the next day and flew to London the day after No regrets
He was honestly so much fun to watch. I was a little more to the (house) left but central enough and far back enough to see him too and I think if I ever get the chance to see them again I will try to end up on his side.
Nightmare is honestly very good at interacting with the crowd and having fun on stage. The live was so energetic and just so, so much fun
On my last show I got Ni~ya’s pick !
This show was NOT AT ALL empty. One girl even passed out. Show was amazing of course. I GOT BARRICADE (I look terrible I didn’t realize exactly when the photo was being taken) but my friend group came out great
It seems like this EU tour is going good, I’m not sure how well the tickets sold (anyone have info?) but I really really hope they plan another EU tour soon!! I know they have the massive 6 month tour in Japan soon, so i hope they’re able to rest…
@zeetabyte I hope you get to see them soon! I feel you with the whole FOMO thing ;_;
Looking back, dir en grey came to the EU in 2018, 2020, and 2024, so 2 years apart. Maybe nightmare will do the same? I’m actually kinda worried about their age though lol, I know ruka is acting like usual ruka, but he looks the most kind of worn out especially choosing not to do makeup and hair (or at least very minimal), and actually the same with ni-ya with his makeup and hair very toned down. Damn, the lives of musicians sure are super busy.
All your reports really hyped me up for Hamburg tomorrow
When I initally bought the tickets I felt more like “Well, it’s a weekend, near my hometown and I don’t have other plans yet. So why not support a VK band ” But since the tour started and I read all these very postive posts I’m really looking forward to the concert
