Amen.
(Great turn of phrase)
I mean i listen to other music but I chose to just mostly listen to vk like crazy because there’s like dozens of vk bands that I love from 90s and 2000s (oldschool bands and some no1curr bands)
I feel like I never listen to them enough
I agree with everything else you said but
Fuck 4kHz xD
(jk I recognize it’s importance but it’s also where all the fizz lives in high-gain guitar tones and killing it without dulling the guitar tones is a hard fight)
Fixing that track up was the day I learned that yes, you can scoop too much out of that region. I was in awe. I needed to do a roller coaster EQ preset to get anything to sound good. It’s probably 30% of the reason why the track lacks any punch and sounds tinny as hell. I had an impossible time with trying to isolate and raise the bass because it was fused to the guitar in a way I can’t even explain. Fuck that track LOL
It definitely has it’s purpose!! It can also sometimes be where the presence of a vocal or the ‘tic’ of a kick drum are living, it can be super important
The radio edit version of Immortalis is much easier to listen to. Dynamite Tommy is a genius.
This prob super off topic but 4k khz is one of my favorite frequencies to mess with if you know how to level it. I usually connect 4k khz with presence in a track with 5k khz increasing toms to make it sound punchy. I sometimes off set them. I realized in between the 4-6k khz is weird region to play with. It can be interesting. I recently found that some tracks connect sub bass with either bass or toms and also cymbals but not all the time. Depends on the artist. These are the general frequencies I usually mess with or general rule of thumb for my brain when I mess around with tracks
50khz - 80 khz: Sub bass / bass
100 khz: Bass (Overall boost)
125 khz - 200 khz: Bass guitar / guitar lows
200 khz: Snare / Guitar clarity (Sometimes??)
300 khz: Toms body / other
1k khz - 2k khz: Guitar highs / mids
4k khz: Overall track Presence
5k khz: Toms (Presence)
6k khz: Cymbals
8k+ khz: Treble
20k khz: Background vocals or synths
I used this method to edit decay - moment but then again I have 4 different eq templates for that track and spent 3 months trying to figure the track out.
Note these sometimes change based on the artist or on a track by track basis depending on what’s going on
I do have a response to this but it’s rather long will post later
If Dexcore and Unite goes major it would be a VKei renaissance
More so if it was a good label like JMS or Warner for Dexcore, and avex for Unite.
They have to stay visual! That’s the key. Both those bands could lessen or even remove their visual aspects and still see major league success. Visual kei scene needs them more than they need the scene. But don’t take this as disagreement because I agree with you!
this could applied to almost everyone in the scene tbh, isn’t DEG got popular and got gigs overseas around the same time as they drop their visuals? also started declining when they (or atleast Kyo) put the visuals back on? Which could be a coincidence, if not for a fact that they didn’t choose to go back on the Gauze-Macabre style visuals and choose a more western inspired looks instead.
Xanvala is there giving all they have . Their members are very talented ,Sometimes it feels like a dream.
Want to see them success
What a brave an passionate band. I want more people listen to them . Their songs are well done , lyrics are always stories wrote by tatsumi who feels so creative he is such a good lyric writer, bassist Nao is giving us unexpected bass sound that feels so unique , Souma creates music as was a Genius and each new riff he creates is incredible. Yuhma composition are so high level and Tomoya is and incredible composer and pricise drummer too.
Is it a hot take that Deviloof has already peaked as a band?
Way past it imo
I tought a lot about my new hot take, but i decided to keep it easy.
So here we go:
We Fans can be absolute fucking assholes on times towards artists.
But because we are a big group of people, we often dont notice it.
Everyone is cancelling the artist, so i have to cancel him too, and more stuff like that.
And in case you’re wondering, yes i am guilty of being an asshole to artists too.
Dir en Grey as well as The Gazette are wildly overrated. Both bands have decent songs but overall, none of their compositions speak to me as something really special.
Gazette are truly nothing special and DeG seem to be experimental/weird for the sake of it while before that being a rather typical kote band. There are/were bands that are way better at conveying a strange and unique atmosphere AND pair this with excellent musicianship. 9Goats Black Out comes to mind. Hence why Sukekiyo to me is musically way more interesting with 9GBO and them sharing a member who has major influence on the songwriting.
I know i sounds like a biggest GazettE hater (this isn’t the first i complain about them)
Summary
Call me delusional, but as a fan i had to say this:
The Gazette should take a break after their tour ends.
Why? because their music is getting same-y for the past few years (Including DOGMA, because that’s where RUKI started getting lazy with his screams) now don’t get me wrong I’m myself was a fairly new fan (First song was Ugly in 2019) but even i thought that Beautiful Deformity was pretty varied composition wise. (and so does NINTH, but unfortunately it got stale after MASS) and 2014 era RUKI was better than the post-2015 RUKI. (Decent Kyo imitation In Pulse wrigling to DIM Scene which is far better than the Butchered one he did on the Spooky Box Volume 1) and he shouldn’t be allowed to write any songs at the moment. cause if the rumor that he did a dictatorial control during the production of MASS is true, then we’ll have to endure NINTH 3.0 next year. (assuming the previous release window doesn’t tell you anything) “B-but Gazette wasn’t a experimental band like Diru or Mucc, t-they rather to play it safe!” oh-no they didn’t need to be experimental but they can try a different sound, like for example let all-member Minus RUKI had side project with reita as vocals, aoi as bass, uruha as guitars and main composer and kai just doing kai things. actually, bring back yune and let kai play rhythm or bass (can he?) and give them a throwback sound to their indie era. and for RUKI. he can embrace his accoustic side. (i know that MOMENT’s accoustic wasn’t actually played by him, but since he write the songs he should have a demo for it.) or the pop-rock side of Gazette like Regret, SHIVER or Red. I know he played guitar on cassis and i don’t know if he still able to play drums since he play drums pre-Gazette. by the way I don’t hate RUKI nor that i think that the rest of band is a burden (boy, imagine how boring GazettE shows would without the airheaded bassist and the feminime looking guitarist that always become a victim of the vocalist pervertedness)
it’s just me rambling as a burned out fan.
But I think their sound is already dated by 2013, i know alot of you hate the metalcore trend, but when a band whose 5 years older than you releasing something as fresh as The End of The World, at the time (Unpopular Opinion) and TRENDY you know you’re a hack. i mean there’s PROJECT DARK and i think there’s alot to improve like having more HEADACHE MAN/REQUIRED MALFUNCTION-style breakdown instead of guitar solo’s, less sampling and more post-hardcore influence, but nope. they halt all of their progress and release NINTH (which tbf still wasn’t that bad 6 years later) which sound more like Beautiful Deformity with a little bit of DOGMA in there. i don’t think they realize how influential they are and how much they’re holding VK back, i mean this whole Koteosa hybrid is so dated in today standards where bands like DDJ Trio of Bands, NAZARE and Nokubura (Honorable Mention to DIMLIM) exist. not to mention the non VK scene like CL, coldrain SiM, MTH and alot more. in fact, i would say that their disinterest to the anime culture hurt the industry in the long run. i know it’s quite harsh to blame the entire industry decline on one band but they are the only big VK band who are proud of their VK status. (which unfortunately coupled with their declining musicality)
Necromancy is frowned upon in these parts.
OMFG IT WAS ONE OF MY FIRST POST IN THIS FORUM AND IT AGED HORIBBLY!!!
Deg has a really good discography tbh. If you only listen to the singles maybe… you can get that impression?
So many good songs, non single songs from arche for example revelation of mankind, kuukoku no kyouon are masterpieces. 13 on their latest album is one of the best jrock songs ever.
Can def not agree that they are overrated.
