Posted before but, Jiluka and Arelquin are fairly new and have some gems!

Does Kizu count as old now?
I feel like there’s as many gems that come out from the mud nowadays as there has always been.
Alright everyone gets back on topic with unpopular opinions.
Unpopular Japanese music opinion (I think):
Sadie’s singer Mao (the not-really copy cat of Dir En Grey) is a better vocalist than Kyo
嘆きの幸福 (Nageki no koufuku) 47:05
(Insert kneeling Vegeta .gif)
I think people are glued to their rose-tinted nostalgia glasses in all honesty. For sure, there were amazing songs back in the day but it’s easy to forget the absolute ass that was released as well. There’s no objective way to track whether the overall quality of the scene’s music has degraded – times have changed, tastes have changed. Nostalgia is just a poison to the present.
Personally, I am delighted at this year’s musical offerings. 2023-2024 was simply okay to me, but this year, wow. So many great ballads of all things!

There is no good reason to region-lock visual kei music on Spotify and I don’t understand why it’s done.
Like this pisses me off. One of the newest bands in the scene to accumulate a tiny bit of hype (if the size of their debut topic is a way to measure it) and they immediately cut off people outside of Japan? WHY? What’s the fucking goal? Fix it. Make it accessible worldwide.
Even if it’s throwing you a couple pennies over the lifetime of your band, at least it’s a way for people to support passively. Do you want fans or not?
they are teasing overseas fans to buy their cheki e goodies… typical, even worst than limited NAZARE releases.
Not sure what exactly they’ve done or whether it’s been unlocked since this post, but I am able to access this track through Spotify (Aus).
Same here (Es).
Also no problem to access from Germany. Maybe you were just to early because it depends on your time zone when it’s midnight? Was/is still the 17th in your timezone and release date is 18th ^_-
But that is normal. At least on Youtube it happens all the time.
Btw I am happy with my apple music Japan, change region is worth at least
Now I see it! Thank goodness it’s available worldwide. There’s a lot of artists I listen to from all over that are still locked to Japan. -OZ- is one of them.
I posted this in another thread but at that time I didn’t realize it wasn’t available to stream for me. It’s still not available for me to stream.
AGREED !!!
LOL
The distributor i use (sends music to Spotify/Apple/etc) has a button you can tick, one option is “make available everywhere simultaneously” and the other default option is “make available at a certain hour in everyone’s time zone”
Add D’espairsRay to the list of artists unavailable to stream:
Remember everyone, don’t rely on streaming as your primary source of music because things can and will disappear. This is one of the finest visual kei albums out there, definitely deserves to be heard worldwide, but because of some rights issues it’s unavailable now and for the foreseeable future. This isn’t a problem if you own the CD.
SUPER HOT TAKE INCOMING
Are the amount of Jrock/vk fans getting fewer and fewer? Like the other day Matenrou Opera released a badass single with the PV posted in the topic, and it only got a few comments and then the thread died almost instantly…
Are we getting fewer and fewer?
Yes, I would say that the amount of quality releases from the scene in Japan is getting fewer and fewer - has this overall caused that the amount of fans are slowly but steadily leaving? Or maybe only checking in once a month/6th month or so.
Regarding the japanese bands it doesnt even feel like the “big boys” are active or caring anymore. And at last… It feels like the “biggest thing” that we discuss in here is Yoshiki going nuts on social media.. like come on…
I don’t think it’s fewer per se, I think that they are getting more spread out to other bands with the new generation of teen VK fans. It may also be so that the group that listens to bands such as Mantenrou opera are too busy to keep up with a forum all the time and rather just listen to the new music and leave the commentary for another time
I also struggle to keep up with everything ever, and it surprises a lot of people to hear that my hobbies and even my job are purely me just doing it but not plastering it over the internet (cosplay, animation, etc)
