If I had some nice clacky soles you know I would be opening and closing doors all day long.
Does Total Saikou still get notifications about this topic? That must be maddening.
i simply cannot imagine spending time on music i do not enjoy. talk about a waste lol
Some people make fun of me because I’m a shut-in.
Yes, I am a shut-in. What’s wrong about it?
I am so bummed.
One of my packages was confirmed lost by the shipping company that was supposed to deliver it. Praying I can get a refund.
I keep having issues with weird delays on other stuff I’ve ordered. I know it’s holidays where I am, but still annoying.
On the bright side this fiasco might be the trigger that officially kills my Buyee and Mercari addiction.
Damn, Grand Guignol is cooked. How do you genuinely mess up so bad, fail to course correct and then disband just after forming.
tink : “As I was writing, it occurred to me that ‘this guy’s ending sounds like nyo,’ or ‘nosu,’ and then I realized later that ‘he must be the protagonist of an existing song.’”
kikato : “Thanks to that, I can see that he’s not only knowledgeable about screws, but also about anime, and his personality really comes to light.”
Just realized we didn’t get a DDJ COLLABORATION 2025
Is an Apple an object?
- Yes it is an object and also a fruit
- No it is a fruit and therefore not an object
A customer last night told me, my fashion sense is esoteric. Whats so esoteric about a hoodie and jeans?
All wrong, Apple is a brand ![]()
I try to tag my vocabulary I learn and I wondered what is actually an object? where does object start and where does it end.
If it is something that physically exists and it is neither human nor animal, it is an object.
I’d say it is broader than “item” but more narrow than “thing”. A thing can also be a concept, so something that does not exists physically. For example mathmatics are a thing, they exists as a concept but they are not an object. Well despite we are talking grammer. ![]()
Item at least would be a good term I could use for things like fruits or consumer goods. Dunno if you can also use it for computers or if you have to use there gadget
In computer science object oriented languages, especially Java, everything inherits from Object. So it’s possible to be both an object and an apple.
I mean, just because it’s food, doesn’t mean it isn’t an object either, right?
Or are we talking about the grammar “object”
I think even there it is an object.
So the etymology of “object” is pretty interesting because it originates as the Latin obicere, meaning “to throw against.” Its past participle form is objectus, which is where we get the idea of an objection in an argument.
Early scholastics start using objectum as jargon to describe something “thrown before,” but it’s abstract in meaning and not yet physical. Think of it as an object placed before awareness, such as an object of perception or an object of desire. Mens non convertitur nisi ad id quod est obiectum eius (“The mind does not turn except toward that which is set before it.”)
High medieval philosophers bring it much closer to the modern meaning by formalizing subjectum as “that which knows/experiences” and objectum as “that which is known/experienced.” This is where we get the grammatical sense of the words, as now an object can be anything that stands opposite a subject. But at this point it’s still scholastic jargon.
The word comes into Middle English via the Old French objet, inheriting the scholastic meaning as it’s still used in Latin-influenced contexts rather than vernacular texts. But during the Scientific Revolution, the rise of empiricism cements the meaning of the object as an observed thing and the word becomes increasingly more common over the following centuries. The original “throwing” metaphor is pretty much gone entirely, though you can throw many objects.
Man, I wrote that whole thing in present tense. But yes, an apple is an object.
I recently listened to Siinamota when I got recommended TK from Ling Tosite Sigure. I listened to his music and his band’s music and found it absoluetely fascinating. I don’t speak Japanese so I searched up the lyrics, and it was very artistic. Anyone else like him? If so, what’s your favorite album and how did you encounter his music?
I adopted a new cat a few days ago, and she’s the sweetest, most playful cat I’ve ever had, but Jesus she’s got so much energy. She jumps on literally every surface. I’m working on slowly training her out of jumping on my kitchen sink, counter and table, but it’s a tiring process. She’s so quick to pick up certain things like using the scratching post or playing with toys, but anything that involves her having to resist the urge to go somewhere she might find food is like pulling teeth so far.
