So the stuff regarding Karasu’s new band has re-ignited the “Is VK political?” debate.
I think a lot of this is people just arguing past one another. Obviously, some bands have political themes and songs. Nobody ever said that they didn’t.
But when people ask “Is VK political?”, they aren’t asking if any bandman has ever made statements (left or right). They’re typically asking “Is this a safe space for my existing views? Is it exactly like punk, goth, where people of opposing views are shunned?”
And the answer to that is clearly “No”. It’s a real mixed bag and believing one thing or another doesn’t make someone “Not VK”.
At the end of the day, the only shared value in VK is scraping enough money together to live.
