Anyone who knows me probably wouldn’t be surprised at the fact that I listen to Barry Manilow, lol. I was already contemplating moving off Spotify Premium → Apple Music b/c of the larger concentration of vk on the platform + included lossless, but the recent hubub I think has further convinced me to make the move.
Problem is Apple isn’t making it easy to log in, in the first place…Also, Spotify’s rec algo is godly…
the riff beginning at 1:07 is almost the same (I think with my nonexistant musical knowledge) as a B-T song’s and now I kinda have it in my head but don’t remember the name or the lyrics and I don’t think midomi/soundhound will know the song … STRUGGLES
anyway … legends copying legends
edit: oh okay it’s Speed thanks to this Wikipedia page called “List of songs recorded by Buck-Tick”
I’m playing Dragon Age: Origins for the first time, completely blind, and I’d decided to do the first playthrough with Alistair as the romantic partner, since it seemed like he’d have the more cannon ending, but then I didn’t want to make a certain choice and he just up and left right before the final battle.
I was like "Would they really just have one of the main characters I used throughout the whole game take off and not return any of his equipment? He must reluctantly come back and be like ‘let’s just beat this demon together’, but it looks like he just dips and you get stuck with a cranky substitute that you can’t romance instead.
I mean, I get why the choice I made would be unforgivable to the character plot-wise, but still, it kinda feels like I dodged a bullet by supporting who I did.
Sort of feels like it was the right choice, given what was revealed about the final battle right after though. Makes the decision pretty easy, if I actually get to choose.
For how many bands currently have or had a “goff” aesthetic and even imitated the whole hipster-Goth/Nu Goth thing, there aren’t really any bands actually making the music associated with it. I get VK is mainly about “stealing” the lookz from various scenes, but in the 90s there were plenty of post-punk and darkwave-ish bands in the scene, following the 90s 2nd wave of Goth for example.
The whole Post-Punk and Deathrock revival as well as the return of Coldwave and the “Death Disco /New Grave” thing of the 00s and 10s seemed to have completely flown by in VK. At best you got DÄLLE (who are more witchhouse) and the Gazette appropriating the aesthetic for their PVs and album designs. Now that the Post-Punk revival also seems to die out it seems unlikely to happen, but I always wonder how a “Coldwave kei” band may have sounded like. Funnily enough, some new era Darkwave groups like Drab Majesty, are kinda VK-ish in the way they look and sound.
I am not complaining, but I wish there were more gothy bands in current VK. I get why they aren’t really a thing anymore - to most people today that kind of music isn’t edgy and gloomy enough. People love their br00tal loud kei and I do like some of that too. I just wish there was more variation.
This is something I’ve been thinking about too. Would be really interesting to hear this generation of visual kei bands’ take on current darkwave / goth-inspired sounds (just like those old bands incorporated '80s and '90s post-punk / deathrock tropes into their own style), but it seems like the lure of deathcore is stronger…
Perfectly fit this gothic nostalgia, but I never thought I would be watching a drama between (my honmei) and (his gay friend) if men don’t start drama then what is that…
