I was so hoping this was a joke. This is heartbreaking. It is still so hard to wrap my head around. He will definitely be missed. I know privacy is a big thing but I wish we knew how he died. He was so young.
My impression of Reita is that he was never the one who wanted to stand out. Or rather all Gazette members feel like that. They do the music and then they have their private lives that they rather don’t talk about.
So we have no idea what was happening behind the curtains, he might have been battling with his own demons for a long time, we can only guess. But maybe it was a sudden illness.
But one thing we can write is - rest in peace。ご冥福をお祈りします。
Hi all, just joined but silently reading many topics here.
I finally want to say that this news is really shocking, as many had said that the GazettE was entry to VK for many many people in 2000s. I started with Dir en Grey and AnCafe but like many people, I stumbled onto the GazettE, Disorder album was the first for me to hear their songs. I still remember the layout of my room that day, upon inserting the BOOTLEGGED CD sold by a certain anime themed store, into my CD player(Boombox type), the proper sound of the opening track, “Nausea and Shudder” was catchy enough to let me hear all of the songs from the album.
I finally bought Original Toxic album when my friend visited Japan. Truly different experience than just downloading or ripping from Youtube at that time…
RIP Reita, you will be missed.
I am a mess and still in denial but the full realisation is going to hit me soon. I am really lucky I have a day off today, so I’ll probably go to Unika Vision.
Don’t obsess over the rumours and speculations, they have been pretty good at protecting their privacy for decades, so there is no way of knowing the real reason before the band or his family decides to announce it officially. But I really hope they let us know the reason in the future.
One really annoying thing that bothers me is that the Japanese news call him REITA without using his real name, which is perfectly fine, but some Western websites and even one Japanese consulate used his “real” name, which is a wrong reading of the kanji… That’s so disrespectful…
Deeply shocking news. Reita’s an underrated bassist (Guren, cassis, karasu, invisible wall are all great bass lines), with a nicely rhythmic and percussive sound. Happy I saw him live before he passed, RIP.
I’m too sad😭
RIP
Comments by the other members have been posted to their website.
Just read the statements by the members and it still makes me so sad. His death has really left me with an empty feeling. I do really like the ‘we are going to honor him by giving even more to the GazettE’ mentality that shines through their words.
I’ve translated the members statements to Portuguese on Twitter.
The automatic translator works better for PT->EN than JP->EN, so I hope it helps.

Yesterday was surreal and now today after reading the members’ comments, the raw emotion and grief is really starting to hit. I can’t imagine what they’re going through right now but I’m glad that they’ve expressed the desire to carry out Reita’s wish.
I agree on this. Even though I was certain that they wanted to I just wasn’t sure if they felt capable of doing so.
Yeah, the timing of something like this of course is never right. But I am guessing from the previous announcement video of the 2024 release that they are pretty far along the process of that album/ep(?). So I would also guess that they were prepping that to some extent.
So… based on shitty google translate, my impression is that they’re continuing, right?
I’m fine with that.
I don’t think it would be right to replace him, but if they continue as a four-piece band and continue building Reita’s legacy they will absolutely have my full support.
Definetly!
I’d say the album is going to be released soon, from what RUKI says
That’s what they’re gonna do at least according to these comments.
Things might change in the future that’s always an option (I don’t expect that to happen though) but yeah they’ll do.
Maybe they will use support bassist for lives.
Well that’s fucked up.
I don’t know how I’d (or the fans) would feel about that…
I think honestly, it would be more appropriate to use a recording—at least for a while—if possible.
In the end it is the band who needs to dedice what works for them. I’d be okay with changing support members from bands they are friends with. Playing Reita’s part as an hommage and they would still be just 4 members.
(Nobody will ever be a replacement for hide but X also took Sugizo at some point.)
They were more of just a favorite band to me back when I was a depressed teen in 2005. They literally were my only hope and motivation to continue to live in the world when I was all alone and bullied - “Why continue living? Because I want to listen and see more of Gazetto.”.
I feel devastated now. I have never thought that in one day, any one of them would be gone. They have always been just somewhere around.
Neglecting them these recent years because I felt they had changed and are different than when I got into them makes me feel guilty and regretful.
Seeing them live in Japan was my biggest dream when I was a teen. I never got to do that and now it would be my biggest repentant in life.
