Sadie - THE REVIVAL OF SADNESS

They got some really catchy songs and definitely their own kind of sound. Not gonna lie.

Strangely enough, the more you listen, the more that comparison fades away. Been a fan for 16+ years and I can’t hear Kyo Jr. anymore. They are very hit and miss, but their good songs are excellent.

i’ve definitelyyy heard people compare mao to kyo and the same with wataru over the years. i never really cared enough to delve, but i never thought it was malicious imitiation :woman_shrugging:t5:

Sadie is Dir en grey for people who don’t like Dir en grey. Sadie is an alternate universe Dir en grey where the boys never went lower than Drop C. Sadie is also a band that likes to incorporate a ton of weird influences from all over the place and maybe sometimes it doesn’t work out. I don’t always like everything Sadie does, but the scene is better off with them in it.

I haven’t listened to Sadie in a looooooong time. Just going through the album now and really enjoying it so far!

That’s a good way to put it.

I was “anti-DEG” for a few years in my youth because my jrock friends were a little too hardcore with the band, and definitely thought I was “cool” for being the Sadie fan. Ah, kids lol.

I think MADRIGAL DE MARIA deserves the DEG “rip off” title it gets (Though I personally like it a lot), but generally, I find hat they have their own flair.

Sadie I get but 12012? I don’t hear that at all…

it must’ve been strictly on a visual level because i also did not hear any similarity :joy:

I think that people listened to SUICIDE when it dropped, head that they were going heavy with slight progressive influences and ran with the DEG comparisons

Yeah, I don’t know. The 2012 self-titled was definitely pulling from DSS era DEG. Madman starts with what sounds like a mash up of the vocal phrasing of Juuyoku and the post chorus riff from Hageshisa.

The problem with 12012’s “heavy” output towards the end was that a lot of it sounded phoned in, especially on the self-titled and Deicida of Silence. Half baked riffs and vocal deliveries, uninspired song writing. Just overall a lot of it was… eh.

The Swan and XII were improvements for sure, but my issue with 12012 going heavier was that they started pretty heavy to begin with:

I don’t know why they didn’t just build on this instead of going all Grrrr en grey instead.

Yeah, though I didn’t mind the self-titled as an “exploration” (and their heavy music after that), what they were doing on Shudder and not obtain +1 was were they really shined as far as their heavier output goes. They never seemed to understand that.

My disappointment when I thought there was Sadie news and people are talking about 12012 :smiling_face_with_tear:
