Takayuki Manabe, drummer of horror punk band BALZAC, dies aged 51

On September 11th they announced that “not all members of BALZAC will be able to perform (on their gig on the 13th) due to unavoidable circumstances”. Already had a bad feeling when they posted this.

They’ve always had various connections to the VK scene and were good friends of MUCC, girugamesh and MERRY for example. I think they also had a collab with DIR EN GREY or Kyo iirc. The first time I saw them live was when they toured in Europe together with MUCC back in 2007.

Oh wow 51 is still pretty young. Saw them back in 2005 in a small club in Berlin and after the gig they stayed and played pool with some guests….

I also saw them a long time ago in a small venue in Koblenz - must have been the same tour.

I remember them being much to loud for the location (think about a small cellar, with very low ceiling) but super enthusiastic and fun.

RIP

Fuck.

BALZAC has confirmed that their one-man live on December 13, 2025, at Shimokitazawa SHELTER will be held as scheduled.
Following the recent passing of drummer TAKAYUKI , musician MASATO (ASSFORT/HELLBENT) will join as support drummer.

The band stated that this will not be a memorial or reunion concert, but part of their traditional year-end series at SHELTER.
BALZAC expressed their intention to reflect in the show the ideas and spirit they shared with TAKAYUKI while planning the setlist.
