That VK Ska Jazz Swing Sound

I’ll be honest, I know exactly what I want to talk about but I don’t know how to title it because as far as I’m concerned, it’s a trope that exists exclusively within VK. It’s that weird ska sound that VK bands land on when they try to incorporate jazz and swing into metal. Listen to these examples to hear what I’m talking about:

EROS is (to me) a terrible song. I hated it when it came out. I still don’t like it much now. But it exemplifies the sound that I’m aiming for. The horns, the crooning, the overall sluttiness. Lycaon were probably one of the only bands to aim for this as their core sound for a while, but them they wandered back to hard rock for their third and final phase. Mostly their second album sounds like this.

『 』曰わく、goes hard on the horns, which is why I threw this song in as well. Not sure if any of these bands actually splurged on some brass, or if it’s all MIDI. Wouldn’t make it any better I don’t think.

NEGA also tried. This song sounds awkward as all hell with it’s placement on GRAVE OF THE SACRIFICE, but it’s not a band standalone song.

Lay some more examples of this weird ska jazz swing sound on me!
