for DeG and ReS i chose to select the albums which had most of my favourite songs so i’d have chosen others as well but ( wanted to add the marrow of a bone and the bottom of chaos fe ) yeaaaah only 9 albums is not enough.
same for ZI:KILL i had an internal fight while having to chose between either in the hole or Rocket. But no way to chose between the A9 and Merry ones ( yes it’s not fair ).
COULDN’T FIND YAZZMAD’S ALBUMS !!! or i’d have chosen the eponymous one, or the most recent one.
There is still a st of bands and albums i love like …literally all of gazetto’s albums ( until beautiful deformity included ), or Sabrina no heaven from TMGE ( but not visual kei ). But i chose to put Plastic Tree instead, my emotional link with them is much more present
Love ideas like this, this was a fairly easy choice too. Tried to go in release year order. 2003, I’m 12 years old and got Evanescence and Schwarz Stein’s debut albums. Also Cher’s greatest hits that I played so many times the CD stopped working.
Madonna releases COADF in 2005 solidifying her as my favorite of all time. The other side of my persona got into FOB and DEG with their albums that year and of course my kings in D’espairsRay give us the masterpiece Coll:set, their first full album
2006 gives us MCR’s Black Parade and then 2008 give us Versailles’ debut album! and those are the albums that developed my entire taste profile
I had to skip a few because they weren’t present, and I only decided to focus on Japanese music from my last.fm. Otherwise, this would be very rap-coded.
I can’t find MUCC album Kuchiki no Tou. Otherwise, it would be in my visual kei top 9. I love so much CHEDOARA of DIMLIM too and Beautiful Freaks of Merry but well, only nine choices.
These albums aren’t my favorites (well two of them are), they moreso represent the first time i came in contact with that kind of music while the others are what made me fall in love with that genre or band.
oh ok we’re going from Madonna to DeG lol controversy aside ( not ) she’s one of the best ever pop artist so it makes sense !
GnR !! ( and the cure ) totally forgot about them or i’d have put Appetite for destruction in the lot . And if i wasn’t reasonable i’d just slap all of MERRY’s albums in there
Also, D’espa being everywhere almost added them too but other albums were more important to me

These are my nine formative albums, trying to pick ones from earlier years that informed my later music taste. Please substitute The Fame Monster for The Fame, as the former wasn’t available on the platform for some reason.
Then I tried to make 9 current favorite albums and my brain crashed, RIP
Decided to interpret this thread a bit differently and approach it from “these are not my childhood necessarily, but these albums make sense when you look at where I am today with my music taste” angle:
