The Music Recommendation Thread

I love your replies, yes I tried providing you with a range!

I enjoy the metal-grow verses colored with the more melodic singing chorus reminds me of Lynch., but fair point regarding its prolonged heaviness definitely the heavier of the 3!

Ichijiku is my favorite of the 3 I am glad you like it. Totally agreed could be a song from the 2000s which is also good in my book! This is more ballad-like and less heavy agreed. Funny enough “Paranoia” (You may not like) has prominent piano in it which reminds me of the “If” rukarukaruka just mentioned, interesting. Whoever composes their piano is so awesome. I love that they have the piano in their songs…

”Eclipse” SO funny you said the “Skrillex” part  I don’t mind it at all but you’re not wrong. Maybe this one is the most “metal-core-y” of the 3.

Also love Haruki’s tasteful growls agreed… to be fair I also love when he loses his shit on “ALL THIS I GIVE YOU” on Lynch. in the verses then brings it home in the chorus. (Which reminds me a little of Hakaana in a way go figure)

It’s different but try to listen to Arelquin’s “Lightning”, (interesting newer combo one for you) “Clepsydra” (You got to like this one), & “lullaby” (Interesting more OG combo one for you) oh AND “always” !!! (Man these guys are fucking sick)

Lightning: Also has that 2000’s vibe I like - I liked it right from the start but feared what awaits me in the course of the song. Will it get more “growley” again? A dubstep part? Something entirely unexpected, but not appreciated? Oh, the tension! But no, nothing wild to ruin it for me - I liked it

Clepsydra: High Expectations due to what you wrote in brackets regarding this song. But, I have to say: I found it a bit boring - sorry :face_with_peeking_eye: It’s not bad, but there could be a bit more of…something. Not enough happening in the song for my taste.

Lullaby: I liked the guitars a lot. This song - everything about it - bears a strong resemblance to some other band, I just can’t figure out which one. Probably a band that peaked in the 2000’s.

Always: Again, cool guitar parts, especially the solo at around two and a half minutes. Could be an anime song, maybe a coming-of-age one  No idea why I have that mental connection.

This was fun, thank you for the recommendations! It shows me again that the first impression of a band can be misleading. I’m glad I gave them the benefit of the doubt, so to speak, after that first half minute of “Hakaana” :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I usually check out around three songs of a band before I decide if I want to keep an eye on them or not, but they surprised me.

Besides, I’m kind of a “picky listener” - I have in general, not just regarding VK, very few bands that I REALLY like. 90% of the time I only like a handful of songs from a band and don’t care much about the rest.

Awesome reply my fellow X thank you for listening to my recommendations and I am SO happy you liked Lightning and Lullaby! No apologies needed on Celpsydra, high expectations is so funny hahaha

Very good point and agreed. I can hear these bands having one “main” style and definitely experimenting or just showing a different mood? or personality? theme in various songs on an album that otherwise sounds the same. I find those to be the case especially on EPs the bands release and sometimes even the less-popular song on the EP? Could be wrong but makes the investigation down their discography interesting because you always find something!!!

I too am really picky in general agreed my friend. Will share more songs with that sound you like (and I like) when I come across them. I am OK with the band making a few gems and not liking all of them. I feel I see their “genius” come out this way and then I wait like a hands folded strict parent hahahah

What are some fire J-rock/Visual Kei albums that came out this year?

I suck so bad, I don’t think I listened to a full album this year :smiling_face_with_tear::sob:
Well actually  no
I did listen to all Sabaton albums fully  but that’s neither JRock nor VKei

Everything lynch. has done. And that’s something I haven’t said in years.

Hey everyone. You all know me. I hope I know a lot of you. I have quite a few recommendations from the last few years that are…definitely on the weird side of great music.

Let’s start with a really fuckin’ cool one:

[Mamaleek.]

– These dudes are all anonymous. With a huge background in Black Metal, and Arabic influences abound, this former quartet destroys preconceived notions about black metal norms; offering tracks that are jazzy, minimalist, and arrangements that discombobulate and assault the listener. Harrowing compositions, incredible musicianship.

[Magdalene Bay]

Mica and Matt. Ethereal. Entrancing. Enticing. Immersive. I’m sure there are a million other words to describe this group, but I’ll relent. These two definitely scratch that itch left in the wake of groups like Phantogram, or Purity Ring, while still managing to stand on their own feet sonically. Imaginal Disk, released last year, is a great starting spot for anyone jumping in.

Finally?

[Igorrr]

I ain’t gonna say shit. I don’t know what the fuck to say. He’s a breakbeat producer, but the dude adds…so many additional layers. Just hit play. Like, what the actual hell?

So yeah. I’ll also second @zeus in saying lynch. kicks so much fucking ass. Like…SO much ass.

I have no idea if any of these will match your tastes, but for me these were the highlights so far:

Ruiza - Alive

Noroimico - 俗界、無道と往く

Vox Caprae - Vox Caprae, Acta Baphometi

DazzlingBad - Immortal Emperor

Onmyo-za - 吟澪御前

I would love some recommendations for rock/metal groups with two bassists or more

Sidepiece. I’m fairly sure one dude runs a Bass VI, and the other dude is on 4 string. It’s good shit.

– scratch that, just one bass. Heavy as fuck.

Hi all! I’ve been listening to songs like Kagerou by Buck-Tick, MUCC - Vampire, forward by exist trace. I think recently I’ve been enjoying fast paced songs, with strong vocals (and guitar riffs) anyone have some recommendations? I’m open to listening to all

INITIUM of REDRUM, what a shock it was when the PV came out. They had a bit of a D’ESPAIRSRAY vibe to them, especially with ZAKU’s vocals. It’s a shame it only lasted for the duration of one title.

For sadie! Those are fantastic! I love Meisai and I think Bleach is fun as well.

For nightmare:Yes indeed! Besides those two songs there’s a lot of faster ones in their Gianizm album!
