Initially I wanted to know what would be the best song to introduce your favorite band to others but then I thought it would be much more fun if we all came up with the worst possible song to introduce j-rock and visual kei bands/artists to others.
I always use Kiryu’s Bakeneko to vibe check people
Or assert dominance, however you want to twist or turn it lol
It’s not the music I listen to 24/7, but if someone is turned off asf from this, boy bye xD
I’m not going to intentionally hide what I listen to, especially if I hope to keep the person around as a close friend.
Cali Gari has so many of these. Do you want the 9 minute dialogue Drama from Dai 6? The 15-minute track from 15 Preview where Shuuji just reads a short story?
Or, ya know, Oto Sex. Stuff so tangential that no one’s even bothered uploading to YouTube.
everyone ive shown this song to has asked me if everythings okay at home
i’d also like to add
stray cat by alice nine
like i love a9 but i cannot defend this song it’s an instaskip for me. it’s just so… bland? which is odd because it roughly uses the same chord progression/melody as 13, which is one of my fave songs by them. apparently tora once said he wanted it played at his funeral which is so funny to me
Would it be fair to say that I can’t think of any song by Kagrra that would be the worst to introduce? I feel like all of it will have its specific appeal to anyone…
Okay just maybe, just maybe the first version of Sarasoujyu no Komori Uta, it was a little janky sounding compared to the beautifully meditative San remix version in the San album.
Okay i was not expecting to see sarasoju no komoriuta pop up in this thread but i actually love the original version.
Idk it’s been a while since i listened to it (i still have the sakura CD in storage) but i loved how it felt so… Unpolished? Like it was a real recording of a folk lullaby. It’s like i can imagine the members writing the song back in 2001 in some dingy tokyo apartment, dreaming of some far off countryside. That entire CD was just so good.
I’m so sorry omg hahaha. Yes on hindsight, I think Kagrra is too serious for this thread xD but yes I definitely can see the charm of the earlier version, so I hope I didn’t step on too many toes
Thank you for this!! This actually enlightened me a little bit about the unpolished jankiness that I was getting from it. I think where I was coming from definitely was that I was exposed to very polished and proper Kagrra, so going back to some of their earlier works does create quite a bit of that contrast… when you said this, I immediately thought about my train trip from Nagano to Matsumoto earlier this year. I can absolutely visualise what you’re saying, and I wonder if it was what Isshi felt leaving his beautifully wintry hometown for Tokyo. I’m glad I went. Thank you for enlightening me, again!
To not spam the rest, I’ll append another response to the thread question: definitely, it’s too easy for Nightmare, just bait-and-switch any Sendai Kamotsu song, and we get a winner
Speaking of which, everyone will probably have fun trying to talk about that one Jakigan Meister song…
The same bait-and-switch thing probably works for Kiryu as well. Nijigen Complex really helped wake me up for school at 530 a.m.
Rad dream by Nightmare the synth intro melody is SO cheesy and gross I cannot defend it. I’ll fight tooth and nail for Nightmare but I can’t defend that synth riff. Everything else I quite like actually but that synth melody makes me nauseous.
It’s a relatively new song and I know they like to play it but I’m admittedly worried that it will appear at their Europe shows and unsuspecting concert goers will be turned off by it.
