So, I’m not sure where else this would fit, because it’s definitely more hyperfixation than a discussion discussion, but I was wondering if anyone else noticed it, since I’ve crawled the web over to see if anyone else felt the same way.
I’ve been a fan of UVERworld since their first album TIMELESS released in 2006. They’ve always had music with more pop-rock leaning, so, I was expecting that. What I WASN’T expecting were a couple of songs that caught me off guard! They are:
These songs stand out amongst their discography for their more nu/alternative metal-ly riffing and style. Around 2006-2008, the band was also using Drop B for a lot of their music, which is rare for a mainstream pop rock band. They even used this tuning on D-Technolife (Bleach OP2) and Colors of the Heart (Blood+ Opening 2).
Later on, there is DISCORD from their 2007 album BUGRIGHT. This album has more poppy flair than the previous one, but the style of music calls back a bit.
Not as overt as before, but moving on.
I haven’t listened to much of PROGLUTION, just because it never really gripped me, and that’s as a longtime fan. After this, in the album AWAKEVE, they dropped that metal-influenced atyle in favor of a “heavier” sound. Yura Yura seems to be the only song on this album in Drop B. The lowest tuning is half-step down on a 7 string guitar, which is really interesting, and this song is an example of it.
This is the only example in this album, and there aren’t any notable examples in the following few albums of any major shifts in style. However, in 2011’s LIFE 6 SENSE, there is one more song that uses Drop B as a tuning. Unfortunately, this is the last song (to my knowledge) that uses this tuning. Around this time, they have more songs that are in Drop C, C# and Drop D.
In 2012, THE ONE (album) features overt electronic/EDM influences to their music.
This element stays with their music up until their modern releases. I have not listened too heavily to their music past this point. I have given UNSER a shot and I’m not a fan of their current style.
