What is your subjective favorite guitar tuning for visual kei?

and why is it drop C#?

I’m just joking. In all seriousness, share your favorite guitar tunings for VK along with some songs that use them. And if you aren’t sure what your favorite song uses, post it here and someone can help you figure it out. Together, we will uncover the mysteries of VK.

7-string B standard, one of my favorites from mid-period MUCC. A LOT of their early discography (maybe from 2001-at least 2014) was in this, until they started experimenting with drop tunings (Drop A specifically around 2017)

DEZERT’s discog until 2015-16 (when the original guitarist left) exclusively used Drop A#

Vistlip. for a while, used one guitar in Drop B, one in 7-String B Standard (the mix is wacky and you can’t really hear the 7 string well until the breakdown until 2:32)

Drop C#. Responds well to +1/-2 transposition on my guitar modelers.

Standard tuning or D# (because of aie).

I could be argued into standard tuning.

Drop C# for sure. Can sound heavy, melodic, upbeat, sad etc

What guitar modeler do you use? I have yet to try pitch shifting in Drop C# with my Helix.

This is what I’m talking about! I agree

I have Neural DSP’s GOJIRA X suite, as well as a Whammy DT.

It would be either 7-string B-standard (thanks to MUCC as @Forest pointed it out, Miya was much more interesting with that - same goes for some Vistlip and Arlequin songs in that tuning apparently?) or drop C# (there is something about this that suits typical VK vocal ranges) for me.

Someone give me more appreciation for 7 string B standard.

I could be mistaken, but I think lynch. used that 7-string B standard + 6 string Drop B combo for a while too

composition Is the most important point, whatever the tuning.

But I notice, lower than drop B, or 7 strings standard, i tend to disconnect with bands. It feels too much, and insistent

Dir en greys ADADGBE, fun to mess around in.

Drop B and Drop C# are fun

D Standard as well

Idk why but i hate the way this one sounds
