Would start with roots,

was now some days ago but I introduced someone to HOLLOWGRAM and 9Goats black out. We started talking about hidden gems in music. And I just needed to show him them. He said that he enjoyes to actively listen to music to calm down and the ballads of this two bands are perfect for that.
also he had some interest in japanese music already.

I think new listeners definitely have to be introduced to one of the more well known bands, so definitely bands like Malice Mizer, X Japan, Luna Sea, Dir en Grey, The Gazette, Buck Tick, etc.
