What was the first vkei band that you listened to?

Well, it was Nightmare in death note. The same boring mid-2000s story

Dir en grey. 1999. School cafeteria. I thought it was the gayest thing I had ever seen in my life. To be fair, it probably was. Didn’t have much to compare with at the time. But the music was good! Kept me coming back for more.

My first japanese VK artist was MYV, but he was already starting to drift off the Visual Kei style at that time, so I wouldn’t count him.

In this case, i’d say it’s Dir en Grey too ! 11 years old prude and innocent me discovering them with " Cage " and watching the MV over and over without understanding what’s going on was something… Thanks DeG for the education !:sparkling_heart:

I don’t know why I stayed tho, maybe a mix of them being cute, and me being happy to listen to my " own band and style that I discovered by myself " !

Janne Da Arc’s “Wild Fang” from Megaman X8 back in 2009!

Then, ABC, DIR EN GREY, the GazettE, laraku, in that order. I was hooked by DEG, though.

the first band i TRULY listened to was dir en grey but the first time i heard vkei had to be forever love on that x/1999 movie. i had no business watching that movie at that age but that song blew me away!! i was in the throes of my very weeby stage in the late 90s so anytime a japanese song came on, i made it my entire personality.

I feel like we have a thread like this already

I can’t remember the first band I listened to, somehow I went from ayumi hamasaki to VK. I have no memory of the way anymore.

Nightmare, after hearing the two songs used in Death Note. So I checked out their other songs and loved them. Ever since that day, I ended up down the vkei rabbit hole.
