After they were supposed to perform today (dunno if they ever did), LYL have announced that they will no longer perform at the Heavens Door livehouse after one of the artists apparently set fire to the stage without warning, potentially causing 1.5 million yen in damages to drum equipment that was enclosed in semi-hard cases without fire protection. As a result, the band will not perform at their next live on 8/31, but vocalist 羽生ゆか(Yuka Hanyu) will instead perform as a solo artist.
One of these bands they performed with was vkei punk band Anti Feminism, who are notorious for their over the top, often violent performances. Both bands are getting ragged on Twitter, with bangers such as “Anti Feminism has a long history. Why didn’t they do research on them beforehand?” and “I thought there were other bands that did things like Anti Feminism, but it was actually Anti Feminism”
According to this article ∀NTI FEMINISM (アンチフェミニズム) are being accused of setting the livehouse Heaven’s Door stage on fire without warning and causing 1.5 million yen in damage to their equipment. After the incident, the owners of the club apologized to fans and the public on Twitter, but people think they aren’t the ones to blame, and demand that ∀NTI FEMINISM be criminally punished for intentionally setting the stage on fire because this is a direct violation of fire safety laws.
To be fair they’ve been doing this for decades now and KENZI oftentimes gets injured, but it also puzzles me they haven’t been cancelled with a name like that, LOL.
Apologies if you’ve heard this a hundred times before but TL;DR フェミニズム / feminizumu / “feminism” doesn’t mean feminism in the same way in English, “waifu” doesn’t mean “wife”
and 黒夢 doesn’t have an album out advocating for women’s rights but rather getting fucked while he’s cross-dressing
Kinda like the word pulled in from another language, “waifu” has different connotations than how it has in Japan (pretty sure ワイフ is just wife in kana, no special meaning afaik) but when in English we say “waifu” we mean “fictional crush” - when “feminism” got borrowed into Japanese, it took on a meaning more like what in English we’d say “femininity” for
Hence Kuroyume’s album Feminism’s cover is (correct me if i’m wrong!) singer Kiyoharu with a cute haircut and makeup looking feminine, displaying femininity or フェミニズム
And the edgy “you can’t tell me what to do” punk Anti-フェミニズム isn’t in response to womens’ rights necessarily, but against the want for femininity of guys in the vkei scene (according to Kenzi’s perception)
Note; i don’t care for the band personally or endorse any of this, i’m just saying all this on a purely linguistic sense
Heavens door is OK about fire on the stage btw 笑 it’s one of the livehouse that accept any kind of a radical (?) performance, so technically there’re no violated rules at all the other question that the band which is much younger brings the full drum set for an average taiban when they aren’t even top or main band, and being ignorant about googling the same day performers, the other people noticed that fire and self-harming is an USUAL part of AF performance… idk it’s strange, when your manager is booking performance their job is booking the right event and researching the “air” (club, same day performers, equipment, any costs etc etc etc)
Back when I bought dvds AF dvds were the holy grail for me. They are harder than hell to find and the shows are insane. I’m also a fan of KENZI and his city league baseball team. Oh, and DEAD POP STARS where’s he’s the drummer.
Also, in general there is no to zero political correctness in Japan, China and South Korea. One ongoing example is the wukong dev’s “fighting” against western journalists who critize them for not having any diversity and stuff, but none facks given there. I think there will be much much more of this in the future.
This could be something to remember if you like Japan, Korea and stuff. If you fight for justice, which of course we all should do… but you will have a hard time in Japan if you care much about those things. Just a heads up… I know this is sensitive and im trying to write it as neutral as possible.
eh i imagine there’s plenty going on there as well as everywhere; i’m sure there’s Japanese/Korean/Chinese issues and discussions that make no sense to me and my one-language/culture-understanding self
i think it’d be a bit crazy for me to go into Japan and tell some guy how he shouldn’t act in his language/culture/country - but this is just an english online forum where i say “my thoughts are xxxx”
anyway i’m not necessarily against these guys, their looks, or their politics! i quite literally don’t know much about them, other than having a slight sense of where their name came from and how it’s different than how it might sound to an english speaker.
For all i know, maybe Kenzi might be an absolute champion for womens’ rights who just doesn’t want to present feminine himself lol
We don’t have to take it further here since i understand it can be sensitive. But think that for example Japan, just a few years ago removed porn magazines from their convenience stores - because they were worried foreigners cared/would care about it. Until that those magazines were in the height for all small kids to see, I remember the kid mangas were next to them. And the japanese themselves, not even women, cared about it. If there was no pressure from the west they would still be there today.
