exactly, summing it up to “It’s what they do.” is kind of apologists rooted mindset, even if false accusations this will be damaging for them, once an image is set in stone.
Police would have gone through her phone; that would be the evidence corroborating her verbal accusations, so summing this up to rumor, especially when a major news organization seems to have a reporter in contact with the victim also washes away any thought of fake line photos.
So in the least there was some situation where they did something that merited an apology so either way they kind of f*cked up any way you cut it, if there was nothing they could have ignored.
Either way with that kind of evidence plus Japan’s terrible legal system the guys’ only hope is moneying their way out of it with a settlement to try and make her retract her statements, that is if the police do not have some evidence that is not public yet.

It’s not an excuse, but rather the interpretation of the situation as it currently stands. Like you said, they could have chosen not to do that. I agree. The situation is being taken advantage of in order to promote the band further. I was 100% expecting the band to address this situation on their official channel, not on the guitarist’s personal Twitter. I’m speculating that the label runs @Arlequin_offi (or at least has access to it) and knows things we don’t know, so they’re trying to get ahead of the drama and get the album in our hands before we know what they know. All anyone in this situation cares about right now is keeping their nose clean, making money off their efforts for the last few years, and staying solvent/employable in the eyes of visual kei fans, in that order.
It might seem like a diversion, but I think the seriousness of this situation will rival the saga of THE EGOIST and the sad tale of BLACK CAT. Both of these stories are huge black marks in visual kei, and what they share in common is that when the story broke, all the details were given to us backwards. For BLACK CAT, we only got news on 2016-01-26 that SHINTARO was arrested because “he is suspected to have sexual relationship with various high school girl fans”. The band fired him the very next day. We only got wind of the recordings of the sexual orgies weeks later, off a very small Japanese Yahoo! news article that only mentioned him by name and crime. I have to emphasize that part because it’s child pornography, but that was never the leading statement on any part and definitely wasn’t emphasized by BLACK CAT before they disappeared into the ether.
Same with Setsuna from THE EGOIST. He was initially arrested on assault charges, not murder. Uran posted months of proof on her personal LINE account before her suicide. These details about him being engaged while married, cheating on his wife, promising to the double suicide before backing out, etc., were not disclosed at first. The whole story was told backwards like a bad drama come to life. Also, once again, the band chose to evaporate into mist to not be associated with that stigma. I don’t even think any of them are active anymore.
So the elephant in the room for me is why these guys are sticking together/not saying anything when salacious rumors have been swirling for quite some time? They have to be aware of something since it’s been a while since the incident. But I honestly do think the label is trying to do damage control and make their money at the same time, and it’s gross, but it’s what they do. Capitalism gonna capitalism, and GOEMON RECORDS isn’t in the position right now to lose their cash cow. It’s literally just them and POIDOL.
We’re still at the beginning of this unfortunate tale, and if it’s anything like the two that came before it, more details are going to come out over time. It’s only been 18 hours since this broke international waters, so I don’t even know how to feel yet. There are noticeable chunks of time missing in the story and what we have right now not only isn’t the best translation, but doesn’t add up to me. I’m just really trying to refrain from reading more into the story than there is at this moment.

As for the Black Cat — if I don’t confuse anything, the guy was cleared of all charges several years later. Don’t remember the exact details, though, it might have been even a lack of evidence.

“Several years later”? Absolute insanity right there, but that’s what I’m talking about. These details don’t come out all at once and the conclusion definitely never reached my ears. That’s why I’m just waiting.
Oh, and if ARLEQUIN is the only band left on the label then that makes me a bit more certain that they’re doing damage control.

Considering the Japanese legal system and society, the details will never come out at all. And I personally wouldn’t book what they did under “damage control”.
Just because someone isn’t sentenced, doesn’t mean they didn’t do it.
I agree, and that’s why I’m stressing that we wait a bit longer for more information. This incident happened a while ago so waiting a few days for more information isn’t going to hurt anyone.
Everyone is posting how relieved they are under Kuruto’s announcement except for one person who’s like “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. How can I believe you?”
