- english album review Album of the Week 32-2025: Onmyo-za – Ginrei Gozen – Kevy Metal reposted on https://www.metal-archives.com/reviews/陰陽座/吟澪御前/1349706/
An immediate favorite of mine was the delightfully theatrical ‘Kishin no Ōdō Naki Mono wo’, which starts out with a very doomy riff, but turns into a feast of harmonies and expertly arranged contrasting sections once the enitre band enters.
- japanese album review 【アルバムレビュー】陰陽座 – 吟澪御前(2025)現代社会と接点を持つ重厚なテーマ性と粒ぞろいの楽曲 | 自部屋の音楽 this one also goes into tuning for each song etc for example,
なお忍法帖シリーズのルールは、Amのキー(ノーマルチューニング)としており、今回は7弦におけるEmとしているので、ルール通りということなのだろう。
The rules for the Ninpocho series are that the key is Am (normal tuning), and this time it’s Em on the 7th string, so I guess it’s in line with the rules.
どうやら鬼女サイドがBm、神女サイドがEmに対応しているかのようである。
It seems as though the demonic woman side corresponds to Bm, and the divine woman side corresponds to Em.

ただ今日の曲紹介時に黒猫が「あえてこう言わせてください。組曲「鈴鹿」」と述べていたので、このように記載している。
However, when introducing the song today, Kuroneko said, “Allow me to call it: ‘Kumikyoku Suzuka’,” so I have written it this way.

また、今回のグッズなどには、『The song I sang becomes a guiding light』なる一節が、<吟澪>のサブタイトルのように記されていた。バンド側から公式なアナウンスはなかったはずだが、これは<吟澪>が意味するところを英訳したものだ。“We”ではなく“I”が用いられたのは、吟澪御前たる黒猫に焦点を当てたと理解すればいい。
Additionally, the merchandise featured the line “The song I sang becomes a guiding light” as if it were the subtitle for “Ginrei.” There was no official announcement from the band, but this is the English translation of what “Ginrei” means. The use of “I” instead of “We” can be understood as a way of focusing on Lady Ginrei, Kuroneko.
my thoughts
here s the album playlist on youtube.
heres the thread i made of lyrics and liner notes.
for noobs who for some reason dont want to listen to a whole album at once, i recommend listening to the point of this album, “kumikyoku suzuka,” which is tracks 9,10,11. obviously u’d want to read matatabis explanation of the story at the bottom of this post.
but Miss Jely , I dont have time to learn ancient Japanese folklore
woOoOW um sucks to be u. then pick one of the following:
-
tracks 1 and 2 go together, this is standard for onmyouza.
-
track 5. lol
-
track 6 has the addition of culturally “traditional” instruments and singing style for kuroneko if that is something u like.
-
the last track is the cutest i love it.
https://youtube.com/shorts/dGyvKBr00QY?si=JhrlRCImys2hW3wW -
but track 4 is second cutest.
-
the only soft-sounding song on this album is track 8 (lyrics are rough tho), and i can imagine it hits like tamashizume no uta live.
amazing live recordings were why i ever started listening to onmyouza, so i CANT WAIT to hear live version of these songs and to me they’ll be the “real” versions.
besides Live Performance, Concept is very very strong w/them. so songs go with other songs and albums interact w/ other albums in a neverending mandala and i love it. but like it probably sounds intimidatnig to get into. so for example track 3 starts off with the same sound effect as something from like fucking 2009 2008 and i immediately gasped and made a note in my head
i ttotally get what the first linked album review meant wrt “If it had been younger Onmyo-za, they would have made the songs longer,” and while longass songs is part of the onmyouza charm, i think it does show that they were going for less Overt Explanation in this album.
