Albums That Turn 20 This Year

Inspired by Discord discussion, this is a topic to celebrate this precious milestone. 20 years is a long time and few albums stand the test of time and are still listened to that much later. Or, has music consumption changed? Are people still listening to albums from that long ago? Is it even that long of a time? Those are the kinds of questions I hope to answer while celebrating with some damn good albums. And what better albums to start this topic with than these two?

Both of these albums turn 20 TODAY. They came out on the same day twenty years ago. Imagine that!

Every time an album turns 20, post it in this topic? What other albums from 2006 can we celebrate?

Just a question I want to leave for you guys: do we collectively still hate Cassis?

I do tend to skip Cassis every time, it’s not their best song that’s for sure haha! I cannot believe NIL is 20 today oof

A Cassis hate i’m not aware of ?

Also, crime, infamy, heresy, Cassis is such a cute ballad

It’s from back in the day. Like Tainted World old. So I had to check in and see if the hate is still there! I never hated Cassis but I didn’t gravitate towards it either. So I was wondering what the good citizens of JRO thought about a classic visual kei ballad.

Damn! NIL still holds up today. Both as a GazettE album and otherwise. Was unaware of the Cassis hate. I personally love that song.

I don’t hate it, I think it’s a pretty good song overall. It’s long, but the structure doesn’t get too boring for me, and I like the delayed guitar part in the chorus. It’s a weird single for a major debut, an almost 7 minute ballad and then Toguro as the B Side, which has the complete opposite mood.

I still skip it. Sorry everyone who likes Cassis :wilted_flower::wilted_flower:

Gotta play a little catchup here with Tokyo Jihen’s Adult (or uh… Big Human), which turned twenty on January 25.

What a great album with great compositions and sophisticated production to match the cover.

I had trouble picking a single exemplary track because it’s the classic stylistic grab bag of Shiina’s career around this point in the 2000s. There are just so many cool outros and transitions here.

My review (made before Gazettes NYC show) is coming up on a decade old!

I liked Cassis. I liked the b-side on the single more.

We also have fun non-vk shit like SLOTH LOVE CHUNKS’ Shikakui Vision and then albums that went nowhere like The FLARE by The FLARE!

nil always holds a special place in my heart because it gave me taion. not sure if i’ve played a gazette song or pv more than that one truly buuut reila might be up there as well!

Love how chaotic DISCHARGE was in live performances. Hope they revive it. It is interesting to see how much the gazette has evolved from their music style to choice of outfits

This is one of my favorite songs. I recently found out that it’s a plagiarism, but I like their version much more.

You can’t leave me hanging like this! What song is it related to?

:slightly_smiling_face:

Do you still do these? I remember watching a few of your driving reviews way back in the day. They were awesome!

Aww, thanks!

I don’t. Was really just for M-H review section… but sometimes I do get the itch; I even still have that car!
