Band Recommendations

Just been listening to stuff like Ryuichi Sakamoto, Kotaro Oshio, Depapepe, Masaaki Kishibe, SYU and SUGIZO technically count since they don’t sing, Seiji Igusa; that’s about it so far besides RS5pb, Kyoto Jazz Sextet, SHAG, 類家心平 4 Piece Band, Isao Suzuki.

Hello people, I wanted to request a series of recommendations for visual kei. Currently, I have been stuck in the sound of SEX-ANDROID, and it makes me feel stuck, I want to hear more, I like The loud kei, menhera, and wafuu kei give me your best recommendations, I know the most common ones in vkei but I want to go deeper hehe

My favorites are Mejibray, Dir en grey, Nazare and archemi

Ehm… Mkay

I am assuming you already know jiluka, Deviloof and Dexcore, right?

Yes, I really know them, I’m looking for something more underground since I’ve heard the most common things

Damned, Ninth in Pluto, I forgot who else is accounted as loud kei.

If you like loud kei or those visual kei bands that play metalcore and deathcore, you could try nonVK bands maybe

How about Kizu?

GAUZES are great too

Late on that one but, I only know a few, I assume you know Nevrness already

Sailing Before The Winds guitarist Liku does some instrumental stuff under the name Winfell

And there is Flying dead Nyan Nyan

 Not sure about anything more

Oh well these bands I do know Ninth in Pluto but not the ones I see, I tried in the past in fact I come from the deathcore or metalcore genre, but I loved vkei for its variety of sounds

Guy, I like that melodic sound of xaaxaa with some strong sound, mamireta too, but it’s kind of unpleasant to feel stuck listening to a band even though I like them haha

One doesn’t has to equal out the other :person_shrugging:
And

If you have Spotify you could try out our best of 2023 playlist

(We have other playlists too)

You know Choke?

Any newer VK bands within the past 6-7 years that are worth checking out/keeping an eye on?

All very different vibes, but I’ve been enjoying:
NUL.(Hizumi from D’spairsray)
H.U.G (Ryo from 9goats, hollowgram, etc.)
Fukuro (Yoshiatsu from Dadaroma)
Petite Brabancon (Kyo from DeG)

All started up in the last 5 years and all greats to me.

This surely is a question of music taste but I enjoy these newer bands a lot and both did not disappoint live either:

Jigsaw
Xanvala

And i second the recommendation of NUL. Even with the limitation he has, Hizumi is still a great vocalist.

I try as I currently learn mandarin to also interact with the language more which also includes listening to more Chinese music.
But I come to the problem that their usual preferred style of music (ballads) lacks the kind of energy I usually want to summon with music. Does anyone have concrete recommendations for Chinese music group with much high BPM tracks

@wing would be a good resource. I don’t know a lot of Chinese music but I like these two artists:

There is InChaos Chthonic

Not sure if that’s the right chinese

I thought the same :handshake:

You can also find Korean groups that perform in Chinese, if you don’t mind that it’s pop

Here’s a few to get you started, I chose from a variety of genres cause I’m not sure exactly what you’ll be into (other than more energy than a ballad – I don’t like them either haha). If you’re ever looking for something in a specific genre, let me know and I might be able to help.

Here’s a bunch I like. These are all rock/metal, and I’m linking the lyrics too. If you’re learning the language I assume you want to read them. I’m not sure how much they fit your ‘high BPM’ criteria, but they’re not ballads, so anyway:

DengeL - They’re not on any western music service, but you can find their songs here and the lyrics here. Just click on the album->song and it should be there. If you want the lyrics with pinyin, I can send it to you, since I transcribed all of them for myself.

周诗几 & 怪熏蜡烛 (周诗几Z点z_) - No presence on western internet, but can find all of their songs here and the lyrics here.

TANA - This is the only album they released so far. Lyrics here.

The Song of Chu - This is their only album. Lyrics here.

The Last Successor - Lyrics here.

Dream Spirit - Only these two albums are on western music services. Lyrics here.

Nightingale - Lyrics here.

And of course:

Lyrics here.

There’s a bunch more I like, but they’re either opera-like vocals (Mysterain, Frost Tears) or harsh vocals (Voodoo Kungfu, Zuriaake, Vengeful Spectre, Alaksana, Black Kirin), that might not be conductive for language learning

Also, if you’re specifically looking for rock/metal, keep an eye on this youtube channel. He regularly uploads Chinese rock and metal stuff.

@Rena
Most of Chthonic’s lyrics are in Hokkien.
