Can we talk about these Gods? I see the new singer has created RAZOR (Another questionably define-able English word) but my Lord Born riffs re-define using 1-2? key signatures for every single song they are LOVELY! They deserved more LOVE! Was PScompany competition an issue with names like the Gazette? (Also Gods) which I hear their sound in occasionally from the bass? (RIP Reita) Another Interesting one…….
“I get this beautiful girugamesh + the gazette combo out of BORN and it is GLORIOUS!”
I welcome all your replies, this music needs more publicity or a Time Machine I swear..
Another fan of BORN. Absolutely splendid ![]()

I feel like its a bit different vibe compared to girgugamesh compared to born. Born is more rock and roll-ish type with other pop rock elements while also being heavy its intresting the way they fuse these elements together. There is another band they remind me of but i cant quite put my finger on who at the moment.
My favorite releases from them are a bunch but i cant really pick one. Their early to mid era stuff is my favorite material. These releases are: BLACK THEORY MANIA, BLACK BORN MARKET, BLACK DEAD MUZIC, and DOGMA (There are more
)
What a glorious reply! Subarashii!! Hello fellow fan!!!
I’m an abnormal head machine fan, awkward transitions and all. BORN exists on a spectrum where their beginnings are badass and their end was just ass. They really lost their way somewhere near the end, and the rumored disagreements among band members put the nail in the coffin. I agree that RAZOR doesn’t hit the same vibes BORN did at their best. The two bands are doing fundamentally different things, even if they are similar in some ways.
I can vouch for everything before DOGMA but only because I never took the time to listen to anything after that with much seriousness. When they started adding sluttiness to their music is when they lost me.
Gotta give a shoutout to the remastered A.H.M! The original version sounded terrible and the remaster gives life to some of their best songs. THE END goes hard to this day.
I do still think they remind me of girugamesh because of the pop elements you speak about (example white-harmony ~1:40) but hell you are right they really do fuse all these elements together. They fuse the different breakdowns / verses / build-ups-to-chorus / chorus wonderfully. The only ones that remind me of this are Arelquin? but I could be wrong.
I will look up those releases !!! These are my favorite currently -
Felony & Psycho Diva & White Harmony being my top 3 for now but DAMN. They are infectious! I feel they deserved more love.. and I wish RAZOR was more like this I am sorry but it is true.
Interesting Zeus thank you for the background!!! I wonder if they did have disagreement. I did read that a lot of the band members agreed that BORN would be the last band? I see lack of motivation? They were playing for a while!!! BORN to Disband Due to Low Motivation
Not sure on the sluttiness but I do see the Psycho Diva cover art and FELONY has some questionable lyrics.. LOL. I need to review their lyrics more. So far the sound has caught me.
I do like the original version of the attached too.. I COULD agree original version (or this more original version) sounds way less detailed maybe but I love it… same reason why I have been collecting the older version of the gazettes singles. I revere these guys so hard to hear them more “human like” and “amateur” gives me hope I can obtain their greatness one day too.
Will definitely check out THE END. Need to get the translations right. This music is inspiring me to learn some Japanese. Serious GAP in American rock music right now IMO. God these people are angels amongst humans.
And same… why does RAZOR not hit? I cannot follow their theme, the voice despite being my beautiful BORN creators’ is more hidden I feel in RAZOR and the band is more experimental but still rock ofcourse..
Probably because they market themselves as the Johnny’s of visual kei. Tells you everything you need to know about where their heads are at.
Original AHM sounds terrible because they didn’t spend a lot of money on it. Old GazettE sounds terrible because the people who ripped those originally did it with two coconuts and a potato. Early GazettE sounds better than original AHM.
I see your point! To be fair BORN could be like the Johnny’s of VK too but damn! HA. I have these 2 songs by them which are OK so far.. they use much “newer” sounds for sure. Not sure how to describe that but I can tell they are safer. Not discriminating but maybe the j-pop/k-pop sound palette has a play?
HAHHA I think they were both on PScompany but I do see BORN says Indies-PSC? I have the original CD’s from gazette some of them are gnarly sounding but beautifully raw. Love it.
Born being amateur and human like is exactly why I like them lol. Razor doesn’t hit for me either and I think it’s because they have a more polished sound than Born did. Not that there’s anything wrong with being polished, but it’s just a very different vibe.
Born always felt really authentic to me, like they were just making the music they wanted to make. Of course I can’t say what their intentions really were, but that’s just the feeling I had when listening to them lol. I never thought they were technically great or impressive but that’s part of why I liked them. They had a rawness to them that a lot of bands lose very quickly but I think they managed to keep it for most of their years.
First of all : GIRUGAMESH ARE POSERS AND I’M GOING TO DIE ON THIS HILL !!! Can’t believe those clowns went from one of the best VK bands ever ever in the world ever, to a ridiculous ( not even Jrock band but almost ) Pop band ! ![]()
At least BORN assumed entirely all their eras and even when they went softer or trying different genres they still did it in a great way !
They had their little cringe eras ( Ryoga’s obsession with Stalin or " Suck my dck or deth
But radical hysteria is such a great song ! )
Also, they had a bit of the " diva syndrome " or " posers syndrome " and some annoying fans from the scene were comparing them to the gazettE all the time, but the musicians ? Great ! Ryoga ? Outstanding showman ! absolutely love love him !! Their music ? Doesn’t have to be the most avant gardiste, never seen before, It was just good ! Much fun to listen to, with great concepts !
I think this mostly had to do with Ryouga having a difference in musical activities. If i remember correctly he publicly said this one time that he feels like born isn’t wasnt style/doesnt fit him and that he did all he could do with the band. I’m sure that’s what contributed to Kifumi ultimately leaving the band. Ryouga’s true style that he likes was shown in RAZOR. Its sad but unfortunately true.
I really recommend trying out their singles after dogma before Kufumi left the band. I feel you might like: Demons, RADICAL HYSTERIA, Blasted Animals. You’ll start to notice the HUGE dip after they made Satisfaction which was their 2nd worst born release ever next to Son of a Bitch. Afterward Kufumi leaves the band which is here when i noticed a dip in their music. I feel he held the bands style together a bit better then K did however they do have some select few tracks i like from end of era born.
Their Satisfaction? release
They don’t hit as much as born does is because if your really think about it ryouga’s style is basically screamo pop rock tbh. Not to get too off topic but RAZOR started pretty decent for me however they started slowly declining in music quality. Their “2nd best album” is legit a complication of their worst releases in my opinion. They have maybe a track or two that’s decent. Even if you look tail end of born’s era no even earlier then that, the Vigor release you’ll notice poppy elements. Yea they might not be as strong compared to razor but i know for a fact Ryouga would have wanted it to be a more poppy record.
Not to get super off topic but i agree however if you really think about it Loud kei is nothing but posers in a way because the whole point was implementing 90’s westerns styles into the dying vkei genera in the early 2000’s with the exception being Dir en Grey at least at that time. In my opinion the reason for them specifically being omitted is well because kyo’s voice is an enigma that im sure some scientist’s would have a field day examining him LOL. Also Vulgar and the other releases to follow kinda hit not only just japan but the world to a degree.
This aside girugamesh’s style has been done in the non-vkei/jrock scene before they just were like lets do the vkei version and add western elements / pop. I do like the pop side to them to a degree it isnt bad just like the regular hits however i on this spectrum i lean toward their child band who was influence by girugamesh called トーマス(THOMAS) in some way i like them better. They had support from girugamesh themselves at one point. I believe some of the members met the vocalist.
don’t hate me but i think AHM original master is amazing, i want all my 2000s vkei recorded in a spare basement please
born was great right up until their demons/psycho diva singles for me. Starting with Proudia their output started sounding stale. Their music was always poppy, but I was disappointed with Vigour for how far it leaned into being poppy especially compared to Abnormal Head Machine. It still had some good tracks though.
I think this is mainly because I got into them right as they announced Vigour so their music hit me all at once. When listening through their catalog it’s clear the transition was gradual though. But they just kept going and going in that direction and in the end they kinda felt like a caricature of themselves.
Their early stuff will always be special for me. The black minis, abnormal head machine, felony, and sakura still hit these days.
I mean, ScreW, BORN themselves, A9, GazettE, heck even D’espairsray tried to add some electro pop elements at “ that “ time when it was trending, and they got criticized for it, but I feel like their music stayed more memorable, because they tried their best ( and most of them did it beautifully ) to mix between their roots and what is trending !
I think trying new things even if it might shock your fans is super cool and honorable, but doing a 180 and not assuming your past is soso
That said you’re the very first THOMAS fan i’m talking to
They are part of my “ bands only I and 5 other persons in this world know “ list lol Their two vocals were super cool and their compos as well ! ( Masataka = crush ). They’re not comparable to Giru but overall good good little band that deserved to be more known !
anywayanyway, gettin’ back into BORN, I agree with the part saying that Satisfaction was the last “ BORN like “ release and they were already starting to sound over polished at that time. That’s when they stopped grabbing my attention I think.
Would have never thought the divergence was coming from Ryoga’s part as he looked like he was enjoying the heavier eccentric vibes. Now that you says it it shows in RAZOR content as well ! But I like the softer side of Ryoga too honestly.
Thank you 100% i agree. And even some moments you’ll find those smaller bands that are influenced by other bands who do a similar style but its done differently. This is exactly why i linked Thomas ![]()
Lol exactly how i feel sometimes but this is vkei its unfortunate but its hard to find people who like the same things in this niche genera. The more obscure or underrated then the less likely to find a fan but im happy that you like them
.
Your also the first fan i ran into that i know likes them besides maybe one other person from years ago ![]()
![]()
Yeah they sounded bad or at least i felt they had less effort. Despite this there are some hidden B-sides that i felt were pretty good. I recommend tracks like: BREAKTHROUGH, DIARY, and 零未来-zeroAsu-. There might be others these are i felt were more notable
THOMAS are indeed a niche band in an already niche industry
Too bad we didn’t end up seeing the other members in other projects ( except for Lotto ! )
Cute songs ! Issue with BORN and why they used not be taken seriously ( funny how all the bands that were judged to be too mainstream like BORN, Mejibray, ScreW, Royz… are now respected seniors
) is that their songs are too easy to listen to, and overly predictable lol It’s like a classical easy but well working formula that they use for all their compos, but I’m not gonna complain about it honestly, I don’t wanna listen to overly deep and emotionally straining songs forever lol sometimes easy songs like Born’s are great too !
I AGREE. They have a very guitar heavy garage metal sound at time that feels raw. BORN gives the melancholy up-beat rush I get from Girugamesh. Similar to some of the Lynch.
Agreed they feel really authentic and making the music they wanted. I feel bad if their looks or lyrics turned people away but damn isn’t that visual kei is? I judge on sound and theirs was sick. They were also tight and organized. I play piano and find myself playing the different compositional parts of the song to be similar to the gazette. They are very structured; And in visual kei being a structured fire breathing dragon is fucking badass. THIS IS ART.
