They will need a singer in the future or they have to train to sing louder because at this point it still sounds like it was created for A-chan
Ryoichi Endo is the solution.
this would make sense
The song is actually really catchy and I’m enjoying the new take with the dual vocals. Despite how people may feel this is a new chapter for them and I like the way they’ve decided to do things mostly for the unique approach but my opinion is one of the few. But it’s definitely a bop.
The single is a much better experience without looking at the video. And being prepared for the vocals helped me enjoy it more. It’s a good song.
I’m still unsure about a whole album like this. Is commendable for the to takle all of this themselves but I can’t blame them if they slow down
Track lengths have been revealed! It’s gonna be a whoppin’ 73-minute album.
Okay, finally listening to the full single and I think I like the remix way more than the original version.
It is catchy, indeed, but I didn’t like it tbh. Autotune sounds awful to me in any occasion…
What if they decide not to perform a vast swathe of their more Atsushi-oriented catalogue though? As some users here pointed it out, it’d make a new, intriguing chapter for them and by doing so, they would also honor each other’s (including Atsushi’s) wishes.
Also, if I am not mistaken, their last “Atsushi tribute” concert had some songs performed by Hoshino rather than prerecorded Atsushi? Both of them (Imai and Hoshino) are not bad at all vocal-wise (though they are not Atsushis, nor they should be), and who knows - maybe Imai and co. already pinpointed their potential “sweet spot” in continuing to deliver “THE” Buck-Tick (and the latest single makes one such good example).
After all, Buck-Tick is NOT just Atsushi - it’s the legacy of 5 good friends that stood the test of time. And that legacy will live on - or as their old TV ad slogan goes:
The hyper bass will firecracker (重低音がバクチクする。)
That’s what I was thinking too, especially after I saw how long the new album will be. I assume they’re planning on performing songs they can do themselves more comfortably live, and what better way than to make a bunch of new songs to cover most of the setlist? I can maybe imagine like some sort of special encore segment where they’ll bring out some old Atsushi live vocal tracks to play along to, but that won’t be the focus of the lives imo. But again, we can only guess (I’d love to read some more recent interview translations to look into their minds a bit on the subject).
Anyway, the album’s only a few days away at this point, I can’t wait! Strange that we didn’t get any previews this time (so far), but maybe they want to keep most of it a surprise.
There was an FC event where some people got to listen to it last week. But no other previews I don’t think
Here’s an interview that’s just been published:
Some main things (via google translator so probably not 100%):
- Imai, Hidehiko and U-ta definitely wanted to continue the band, while Toll was a bit worried at first but got onboard once they discussed it (although he’s still worried how the fans will receive this new situation and how well the guitarists will be able to perform their new roles live)
- they started writing the album after Atsushi’s death, so probably no old song ideas were carried over from the last album’s sessions
- Hidehiko used to do vocals for all the demo tracks he presented previously anyway so the singing wasn’t exactly new to him, but he did do some vocal training
- Imai didn’t think guest vocalists would be too interesting so he passed on that, also researched a bit into AI but it wasn’t what he expected so he ditched that possibility too (thank fucking god, lol)
that looks…scary and more
Curious about Hidehiko’s “vocal training”. I wonder if that allows him to perform at least some Atsushi-fronted songs of his own now live (e.g. “Pleasure Land” was never performed by the band and it’s a full-on Hidehiko song)
Also, this passage got me (a loose Google translator excerpt that @Jigsaw referred to, sorry):
Was it a discussion among the four of you that led to the decision that Imai and Hoshino would share the vocal duties?
Imai : No, there was no discussion. I thought that was the only option.
Hoshino: I've always sang demos, so doing vocals felt like the most natural thing to do.
--So now that you're both on vocals and guitar, both in terms of writing the songs and singing them yourself, were there any challenges or conversely, did you make any new discoveries?
Hoshino: I wanted to make it easy for me to sing. Until now, I had Sakurai-san, so I was making songs that matched his key. From this time on, I focused on something different and made the song.
Like Imai , we started thinking about how easy it was to sing. Also, since we were both doing vocals, we started making more songs that emphasized rhythm rather than melody.
Also:
By the way, Imai-san does quite a lot of onstage action during live performances, but if he starts doing vocals in the future, do you think that will affect his performance?
Imai: Yes, that's true about how we present our live shows. There's a guitar, keyboard, and microphone, and if we keep doing the same things we've always done, we'll end up not being able to move from that spot. I think I'll have to think about that carefully.
The transition to Hoshino in lead vocals isn’t as traumatic as I was expecting. He obviously still lacks the confidence that years being the lead singer gives you, but I can see he growing into the job
they did it
Sobbing !!
