D’ESPAIRSRAY - RAPTURE

imo NUL was the closest to getting a D’espairsray sound. Hizumi was needed :wilted_flower:

I’m a huge glazer. Rapture captures a REDEEMER b side sound. Not bad for 16 years later. I do look forward to what they do next!

Agreed. It’s no Coll:set or MIRROR track, but already, it’s more memorable than anything on Monsters, and better than half the tracks on REDEEMER imho.

Totally fine with them hybridizing their eras like this on the next release and going for a more melodic approach in the next album, but I’d love to see some screamy bangers like In Vain, Sixty-Nine or Lizard thrown in to even things out.

Listening to the entire single again, both with and without the instruments, I have to admit I was particularly impressed by Tsukasa. His drumming really carries the song throughout. Of course, it’s not exactly news that he’s a good drummer, but it’s still worth highlighting.

They revive Hizumi in the beginnig of the MV is so cute  And as he opens his eyes „I‘m gonna scream again!“ - fucking perfect! :ok_hand:

The song itself is more than solid. I mean they have been gone since 16 years and the song sounds as if no time has passed at all. Same riffage, same sound effects and same MV vibes. I‘m totally happy with it and love the nods to their more industrial era.

I gotta say that this song is pretty good. I’m glad they got back together. Do we know if it’s long term or just a short term thing? The song sounds promising if they can keep it up

Super excited. After hearing it live, I wasn’t sure what to think of it but I did immediately notice how well it fit in with the rest of the setlist.

Now hearing the recording and seeing the music video I’m really happy.

It’s not the most stand out track, but I think it works awesome as a comeback track. They needed to prove that after so much time they can still capture what made them popular in the first place, and this absolutely does that. Down to the silly effects in the MV, the little electronic effects in the song, and the looks.

They’re older now. Life’s happened. But they are here to give us some of that misic they could share before. and that’s more than I could have asked for.

Personally, I like the single. The only part I don’t like as much is the transition between the chorus and verses. It felts a little too tight to me. Like it could have just used an extra melodic second between the two. Idk, almost feels like it’s rushing between the hardcore and the melodic a pinch too fast.

As always with any band, I’m looking forward to the next track that makes me say “they haven’t done this sound before. They created something truly new and unique”

But until that song comes, I’ll keep eating up the D’espairsray slop. Bring it on. It tastes good.

I now listened to it once.
I’ve not been on the hype train (I tend to stay away from these anyway, for me this usually just creates hope that comes with expectations that might not get met) and I still ain’t getting on it now, after listening.
It’s a solid track.
What bothered me most were the comparisons to Horizon and Kamikaze. Both are songs that I don’t dislike but also not particularly love. They at least aren’t within my 24 top songs (if it fits to call it top songs with that amount, I just made a list out of 59 of their songs in 2022 and went through it to estimate them according to preference but all I do know are 1 - 24). With the very first snippet I wished they had gone for that direction solely but with the other previews and by all the comments on them I was prepared that wouldn’t be the case.
From all the comments I actually would have expected to immediately like the song more, just by how great it seemed to be but again, I was prepared for that not being the case and I’m glad about it. Otherwise I wouldn’t say there’s quite some potential it might grow into a song that I’m gonna like a lot more than I do now (which doesn’t mean I don’t like it, I mean this just in perspective of the impression of the first listen).

In my opinion they didn’t have to prove themselves. The song ain’t surprising at all. Just because it’s a mixture of what all of those who had been a fan already around Coll:set/Mirror era and what they also created with Redeemer and Monsters. This goes in hand with Luv PARADE, too, even though it’s not exactly the same. Luv PARADE just made it very clear to me, that Despa easily could go on from where they stopped back then. The only difference in Luv PARADE to me was the voice, obviously.
As for Hizumi, I love NUL. since I started listening to them with their first album and by the way the band evolved since then I also was convinced he still could pull Despa songs (especially with NUL.'s last album and singles). That’s why I wasn’t worried about a new Despa release, I knew, if that was what they were aiming for, they’d manage. I guess that’s also part why I wasn’t hyped. I was confident enough that I can trust in them.

When they had their first revival live last year they were not sure themselves what this is. They said so in an Interview with Visual Music Japan. And while they have not officially said this is a full revival, all signs suggest, it is:

They reopened their fanclub, they add more and more live gigs for this year, Maifo (the band, Zero and Tsukasa were in after the break up) was put on indefinit hiatus, they already annouced concerts for 2027 as part of a World Tour, they released new music

Yeah, I agree with @CervaCannibale. This seems like more than just a one-off thing.

I have no clue about stuff like this, so this is interesting

I was wondering what he was mouthing towards the end. I suck at lip-reading.

To be clear, I wasn’t comparing this song to KAMIKAZE or Horizon — I don’t even like those songs in comparison to the rest of their discography. I was just saying they’ve been stuck in my head since the live. I feel like both those singles, and BRILLIANT really moved D’espa into pop-rock territory, and though catchy, I hate them for that reason.

RAPTURE is something familiar, but also new. I think it’s the perfect comeback song for them.

Don’t worry, I wasn’t referring to you in particular. There were more people mentioning Redeemer and these two were the singles that got released from that album.

I finally got to listen to it and it’s very nostalgic and of quality! I’d missed their characteristic sound and Hizumi’s vocals. I’m glad they delivered so well. As usual. Let’s wait and see what the future shall bring~

Sadly more than 90% of the views are fake. It’s natural that interest fades over time, but not flatlining like this, going from 20k/day to 580/day. The real views are somewhere around 20k-30k total.

422 comments and 20-30 k ? It doesn’t sound realistic at all.

Never seen a clearer case of botted views in my life.

Maybe more, but definitely not that much. There are enough comments, and it’s clear why, but there are too few likes for that number of views.

That sometimes happens — views shoot up at first, but then they barely grow afterward. The same happened with Razor, Nightmare…

Because they probably bought views for visibility. Views get views. It’s an underhanded tactic but it’s better than spending a bunch of money on a music video that YouTube doesn’t promote because it gets no views. It would be harder to find an official music video that wasn’t botted at this point.

But the problem is that in the end YouTube doesn’t promote those videos, and they literally get stuck at those numbers forever.

Won’t stop them from trying!
