New mini-album DAMNED will release 1.3.2023 under Tokuma Japan Communications
DYSTOPIA has been growing on me. DEVILOOF might be one of those bands that do better with shorter releases.
Fixed the release year to 2023. It will be released on March 1, 2023.
Excellent news in fact they themselves are surprised
I don’t know about music, but Tokuma have released nearly every Studio Ghibli film. Kinda weird since they’re known for publishing magazines above all else.
This is to distract from the dexcore line-up change. Still good news either way
they will hold their oneman live, “RUIN” to celebrate their major debut (holy shit btw) on 4/29 at Shibuya Club Quattro

I look forward seeing this visual in action, but seriously, after what a dissapointing mess the two music videos in the last release are, I don’t have much hope for it here.
Even when I am generally a friend of such music videos of only the band playing in VK, both weakened the other through being the same visuals and same location.
They’re a pretty well-known / established music label too, released music from BUCK-TICK, Plastic Tree, Kazuki Tomokawa among many others, just off the top of my head.
This is an interesting development btw… reading “major debut” immediately made me think of a change in musical style, but then I looked at the cover art and thought “yep, that’s DEVILOOF” so my mind is more at ease now, haha.
I had a thought…would either of those videos be more interesting if they flipped it around so they were using the room backwards? I also share these sentiments.
That name though. F to my super-indie faves.
Wonder what direction they will take it in, just another Newspeak?
Would be fun if they turn into a pop band.
This is what daiki says about it
Part 1
As announced, DEVILOOF will be a major debut from Tokuma Japan Communications.
DEVILOOF is going to make a major debut from Tokuma Japan Communications. Some of you may be wondering, "What will change just because we are making our major label debut? I guess some of you might be thinking, "What’s going to change just because we’re debuting in a major label?
Certainly, just because we are going to a major label does not mean that anything will suddenly and unexpectedly change. However, we will be working as “Team DEVILOOF” with Tokuma’s staff members from now on. Of course, DEVILOOF’s musicality will remain the same, as will our stance as a band. We will continue to be a band that our five members can enjoy and that our fans can support with enthusiasm, and we will evolve further. However, there are many aspects of our activities that we could not handle on our own, and we ask Tokuma Japan to help us reach even greater heights as a band.
Once again, the band’s musicality and stance will not change at all just because we are making our major label debut. Please take a good look at the faces of the band members in the new artist photos. There is no way these villainous faces are going to play pop music. The new EP “DAMNED” contains more evil and perverted songs than ever before.
Part 2:
Let me tell you a little more. DEVILOOF’s goal as a band is to be "the pinnacle of heavy music. As we continue to play this kind of music and play as a band, we feel that "It’s no wonder we don’t sell well because we are playing such intense music.
We are playing such intense music that it’s no wonder we don’t sell well," or "We are doing such maniacal stuff that it limits our activities. or "We are such maniacs that we are limited in our activities. But now we are really serious about being "the best.
But now I am seriously aiming for the top. I don’t make excuses for my musicality, and I don’t make excuses for my undergroundness.
The reason why I can think so is because I have the best members, Keisuke, Ray, Aisaku, and Kantaman. And above all, it is because of all the fans who have been supporting us for a long time. Thanks to all of you, I think, "Maybe I can make it to the top…? I think we might be able to reach the top. We have many different types of fans, from those who have been going to our shows all their lives to those who just listen to us occasionally on the subs, but your love has definitely reached us. And it is this feeling that is the driving force behind DEVILOOF. Thank you very much. Thank you for your continued support.
Stay Metal
DEVILOOF Daiki
Honestly I have zero worried about them losing their sound because them being brutal and extreme is what made them go viral in the first place, which I suspect played a big part in them getting signed with a major level. Musically they’ve very heavy but also marketable because they don’t take themselves very seriously and are more “approachable” (they were a bunch of doofuses on their Ariyoshi Hansekai appearance). I think they might have that kind of meme-potential that Tokuma sees as a kind of friendlier successor to DEG’s more mainstream success. If anything I would be worried that their music just becomes more bland and core-y to the point that it becomes brootal nothingness.
tokuma japan is the label ningen isu are on. they had other metal bands dating to, like, 80s, I think. this is the same label screw majored on.
I typically find that the mainstream labels who have no long-term regular ties to VK (i.e. tokuma, warner, or king records) do a better job preserving heavy sound compared to someone like universal (rip in piss) or sony, who want their major acts to expand on appeal and chug out releases on schedule.
and also I lowkey believe a lot of washed out major acts do so because they aren’t forced to put in the work anymore/indie producer moves onto the next thing to hype up, so… damlam didn’t have any indication of going major when they turned into complete shit.
In the bro sense, they remind me of the prodigy;they look scare af but they’re really cool dudes you’d have a beer with
Man that is an akward cut.
