I think that’s part of it on a subconscious level. It also feels like a song title trope.
downy is my favorite vk band
I sort of always figured that “Downer” was involved in so many VK song titles and lyrics because of like, sometimes the darker/macabre lyrical content can be considered a downer by older audiences but the bands are reclaiming it as a good thing as part of their music.
I don’t think I’ve heard of any songs by the band “downy” and I even just googled “downy vk band” and all it gave me were ads for buying fabric softener….
I cant get over this title. ![]()

I kinda wish it was Immortal Downer instead though. Lol.
I would like to donate my nips to this cause if they would also hit the southeast part of the US (preferably atlanta).
Its been like fiddy years since the first and only time I’ve seen them live ![]()

I’ll donate an organ or two since I’ve never seen them live.
fatima had a great song/single called downer, so that’s what i immediately thought of lol
Instantly reminded me of Deathgaze’s Downer!!
Ah! Yes, that’s what I’m thinking of.
Not the best title, are they sure their translators picked the right words?
The devil in me is not a great start ngl but Im hyped to see what they can cook together at this age. Also no more AI-based edgelord videos, kick that guy.
I’m afraid that guy is Kyo.
I doubt kyo would get grammar etc right… and do you think the guy creating all the AI mess is kyo? Lol, but whoever it is he indeed works for sukekiyo as well.
Wonderful.
You could say its an… downer album title eh eh
I refuse to call this album anything else than Mortadella ![]()

Downy is not a visual kei band but an excellent shoegazing/post-rock/post-punk/ambient band. Musically, it has absolutely nothing to do with DEG. Therefore, i dont think Downy had any influence on the title of DEG’s next album. ![]()
the MOOrtadella
I was just talking about the use of the word downer in VK music generally like The others were doing, not implying they had any influence on this album title. Also, I figured out they weren’t VK when I changed my google search from “downy VK band” to “downy Japanese band” but thanks!
Yall summoned me by mentioning downy - so I will add this: Kaoru was friends with the late Yutaka Aoki, who was downy’s guitarist for 6 out of 8 of their albums before he passed.
The two even did an interview together:
From the interview:
" —I’ve heard you two have a private friendship, but when and how did you first meet?
Aoki: About five years ago, at a DEAD END after-party, MORRIE-san introduced us. We didn’t start messaging right away, but it seems like Kaoru liked downy’s comeback album (5th Collection “Untitled”, released in 2013). He even mentioned it in overseas interviews, right?
Kaoru: That album was shocking—and frustrating. I listened to it non-stop for a while; even before live shows, I’d play it in the dressing room, and the overseas crew would always ask, “Who is this?” I’d say, “A Japanese band,” and they’d all be surprised.
From downy’s 5th Collection “Untitled”
—“Frustrating” in what way?
Kaoru: Aoki’s obviously a guitarist, but as a composer, he’s on another level. His ideas come at you from insane angles, always leaving me thinking, “Damn, he got me.” The guitar tones are amazing, but there’s something more packed into the songs—that’s what frustrates me, in a good way."
Speaking of which, everyone who hasn’t heard downy’s 5th album should go give it a listen, cuz it’s one of the best J-rock albums ever. ![]()

I’ll do it if I can afford it and it’s the ONLY option but I swear I won’t fucking LIKE IT
