Yeah i noticed that too, i wonder why lol
Because they weren’t sanctioned by sun-krad^^
well, looks like my rundown of the song wasn’t needed after all xD
Nothing mindblowing, but i like it
Transition from intro to 1st blastbeat section felt abrupt for my taste.
And yeah, definitely sounds like the ending was cut out.
Wow! Overall, I think the song is excellent with minor gripes.
First, this song is another example of just how good the band has gotten at writing music. Their arrangements are more complex and fluid. At no point do I feel like they’re following the rigid Verse-Chorus-Verse structure. Instead, the riffs flow into each other one after the other and it’s not until you get halfway through the song that the structure begins to become evident. The song feels like it’s developing as you listen along and it’s a style Dir en grey have been perfecting for several years now.
Arguably, Dir en grey are better songwriters now than at any point in their careers. They’re more experienced, skilled, and they’ve been working to perfect a signature sound that is uniquely theirs. It’s a similar approach to a band like Meshuggah. Meshuggah are probably the most influential metal band of the past 25 years, and they have a signature sound that bands across the world try to emulate. They don’t reinvent the wheel with each release, instead, they look to refine their unique sound. That upsets some people. Some people want Meshuggah to do something “new” or “fresh”; but they’ve shown very little interest in doing that. They have a signature sound, a unique sound, and they’re exploring it with each release.
One gripe I have is something I’ve harped on before. The one major negative of a band sticking to a specific sound and style is sometimes things pop up that you’ve heard before. I can’t deny that no matter how much I love Papa Kaoru. There are harmonic tricks and phrases the band, and Kaoru, love to use and they’re often popping up in the same way.
Listen to how the diminished chord comes in and signals a transition to a new section. Listen to how the guitars emphasize moving down a half-step from the tonic to sound extra brutal to emphasize the diminished sound. They have these little gimmicks that always pop up the same way every time and while their riffs and songwriting as a whole are improving, they always go back to those specific gimmicks as if they’re chained to them.
It just so happens that I love those gimmicks; but I can see why it would bother people.
I am sure people have recorded or even rip those 30 secs snippets. I know I did. Bless iPhone screen recording feature!
Really, i can’t wait for more black metal stylings. I’m excited. So excited.
I listened to that and out of nowhere I was like “this…sounds awfully familiar" then remembered how that riff is the essence of black metal…
Same, but i wish they would do it more.
I’d be really interested to see what black metal influences the band have.
I bet Kaoru has been listening to Deafheaven’s “New Bermuda”. That riff is straight out of “Coral Blue”.
Edit: the song is called “Baby Blue”.
I was about to say, you had me confused since that song doesn’t exist lol
Wow, you’re right it definitely is. That’s one for the thread about songs that sound like each other or artists taking parts of songs from others, whatever it was called on MH.
Yeah, i was taken aback for a moment.

It’s nice to hear Shinya finally wake up and put some muscle behind a tremolo riff. Die and Kaoru have done plenty of black metal-esque stuff in the past, but Shinya’s lazy bum-tapping just made it all sound weak.
Yeah really ruins it because I literally can’t think off of the top of my head previous black metal riffs they’ve done.
