I was wondering this too, like are they gonna ditch the previous remake for the new one? Or just use both as yeah original remake is br00tal.

I had a thought about the tracksuit thing. Could just be my imagination but when you think Kyo’s most iconic look. Isnt it the tracksuit? He went with that for quite a while compared to other old school memorable looks so maybe they just thought “when people think of old school kyo, everyone is gonna remember the tracksuit”. Haha.

@johndis

that would be vajra, yep

At this point in history the iconic look for Kyo is:

  • Track suit
  • Bald
  • Batsu tie

Facial hair optional

I like the part at 1:15 where you can tell Kyo was screaming the lyrics while they were recording the video but the studio recording is subdued. Nice contrast.

I wonder if this remake really was needed when they all look and sound so bored.
Wasn’t this single supposed to be a celebration of their band and career?

I have watched the PV a few more times now.

I like the piano in the beginnng but other than that the song, pv and members, everything feels soulless. Like I wrote before, why do a “celebration” release of an old song if you are gonna look so damn bored? Like everyone has mentioned Kyo had so little motivation that he just wore his goddamn addias jacket, the so called “addidas kei”, it feels insulting in a way for a fan this time.

Do you guys have any other thoughts about it now when some time has passed?

It’s a clean retake, without the old silly VK manierisms (either moves and vocals). Kyo could have made an effort for his outfit like with sukekiyo, but I see why he did dress that way.

Can’t wait to hear the new Zan retake now. The deathcore one was a great revisit, but it wasn’t really the song we all know.

personally mostly interested in akuro no oka. i really like the original, but the vocal delivery is a bit too sentimental, so if they go for a more mellow take that would be great.

I still think the “they look bored” part was mentioned by someone here and everyone just ran with it. This is not a live, it’s still a PV and they are going for an emotinal version and probably have been told how much to move around etc. All the talking about them being bored sounds a lot like overinterpreting. We can barely see their faces…

No idea why kyo choose that Outfit. Maybe because he is a little troll or he just felt like it or for him this outfit feels as nostalgic as an old song. We don’t know and I don’t get why a lot of people here ran with the worst explanation.

Im still 50/50 about the song itself but I don’t really see it as soulless, boring or whatever. The complete opposite for me tbh

Yeah I wouldn’t call it soulless or boring. Even small details like Kyo screaming the lyrics in the music video, while not present in the audio show there’s clear effort on the artistic front.
What I think is that it’s got the same issue as Dir En Greys material from the last decade or so, it is “overproduced.”
There’s too much fear of failure this late into their careers, because if they stumble and put out too many commercial failures, then it’s over as a band. Their overall newer artistic tastes are much more niche than when they started.
They clearly all love what they do, even the least enthusiastic of them (In regards to their newer musical styles), Shinya, clearly puts effort into everything he does Dir En Grey-wise.

Love has been put into it, if they wanted to soulessly rip off their old VK stuff they would have just rerecorded it with no changes, even if the changes are small, stuff like the piano in the beginning show there’s a genuine attempt to at least try and create something new without destroying the original. I think they’ve somewhat learned from the mistakes of rerecords like Obscure and The Final where it lost some of the “raw” magic they used to have.

With newer re-recordings/remakes like T.D.F.F - Which I like as an attempt to blend their older industrial/noise-rock styles with their more technical avant-garde styles of newer records - it shows that Dir En Grey is without a doubt a “live” band rather than a studio band.
Which is the opposite of most musicians, much less metal bands, which I think is why we are so critical of them, because they are just trying to hard in the studio to make a “successful” record. They are too scared to output something as raw as they used to. This results in overproduced songs where you can clearly tell there is good in them, but too much drags it down.

I think the mv have an wierd feel cause it’s probably missing 2 minutes of the actual song. It’s an edited down promotional version. Full song will be longer, and the real full ver of the mv is locked in an vault for the next 5 years until the next Avarage Whatever compilation

People calling this take soulless just have to take out their nostalgia-glasses, it’s ok to not liking the arrangement or production but come on lol

For what it is, it’s pretty good. Piano opening threw me for a loop at first because I was not expecting it, but I like it! I hate these promo versions that cut out the best parts of their songs so I’m looking forward to hearing the whole thing.

I want to hear the entire single; video for this was just… bad… like dozing green PV had more creativity and some nice good weirdness to it despite having same adidas thing.

it’s super disappointing because there was no new music from them in so long too, and kyo’s other projects aren’t really consistent; I barely listen to petitbore these days.

like ummm a lip lick (in slo-motion) always works excuse me

we aren’t asking for like scripted videos with narrative or anything like that anymore but like show you’re not just showing up because PV blurays bring better cash than regular single releases
