I was ready to join in with those la’s too, but what he does here is kinda nice too, just unusual atm because we’re so used to the original.

This sounds better than anything on the LUNA SEA self-cover, really enjoyed it and this look just makes sense for where they are today.

Wow, that was underwhelming.
I don’t like these remakes that are literally just re-recordings. Even if they were hit or miss, I vastly prefer the remakes that drastically alter the original composition and arrangement. Plus the guitar sounds like MIDI.
Also why are they re-remaking Zan? The original is great and the first remake is one of their best remakes.

Die’s hair is to die for but Kaoru looks great.

At first I thought the piano intro was a nod to how they started Yurameki at the 1999 Osaka Jo Hall live, but nah.
I really don’t like how Kyo starts off sounding like he’s not breathing while he sings. Isn’t he better than that by now?
EDIT: the way Kaoru chose to play his parts this time aren’t for the better either. Sounds like an AI trying to recreate 90s era Sugizo.

I’m scared for how Akuro is gonna turn out after this. Can ZAN at the very least please feature goblin Kyo noises. Think I’m gonna leave this single for Spotify listening only, praying someone rips the DVD/Blu-ray of that 90’s live so I can watch that

Listened to it with some better headphones… Welp, Kaoru’s part is interesting, to say the least. Plus, that chorus outro has some earwormy… strings? Tremolo? Dunno, that part is nice that’s all.
Even if I don’t like the full package, I at least hope for them to perform these oldies in EU tour.
I don’t have high hopes for Akuro no Oka (Ain’t Afraid to Die was pretty cookie-cuttery for their remakes), but at least they can go crazy for Zan.

the tacky, overly sentimental piano introduction in this kind of suggests they consulted with yoshikitty on how to handle the remake re-arrangement as well.
(and with that, and everything that happened in 2023, I’m kinda belatedly glad they did not replace the AATD children’s choir part with a kpop idol band of fifteen howling in unison)
