DIR EN GREY - The Devil In Me

Why is there so much goddamn reverb on the vocals? Holy shit.

The sound feels very empty to me?? Did they not remember the horrors of playing Unraveling live, lol?

Good performance all around, although they look a bit bored as usual.

The mix on the instruments feels very clean, like it’s directly from the soundboard with a little of the room acoustic mixed in. However, Kyo sounds like he’s been treated the opposite way; recorded live in the room with almost nothing from the soundboard. Might be something to do with post-processing. Weird decisions were made.

The Devil In Me haters have been VINDICATED.

This nonsensical freakout scream shtick Kyo has been doing just ain’t the vibe. If he’s gonna do it, swap the first and second verses and it’s a lot better.

Imagine trying to show a friend who your favorite band is, and this shit pops up. Like whoa, buddy. And then the John Wayne Gacy imagery in the back. The only thing missing is Kyo and Kaoru simulating sexual intercourse on stage. That would have elevated the experience for me, for sure.

It works for Rammstein. See BĂźck Dich (Live aus Berlin) on Youtube.
Was going to post it here but don’t want to risk being banned.

Edit: If it wasn’t clear, this video is very NSFW.

I just imagined Kaoru suddenly bursting out with those perfect falsettos and now I cant not find that hilarious.

Honestly i quite like this live version. With A LOT of their stuff i kinda feel like you can hear the individual parts a lot more clear than the studio version. Still wish Kyo would sustain some of his notes live like he does on the studio version but hes been screwing up his own parts for years for the sake of performance so no surprises there i guess. Haha.

Gang vocals? It’s Kyo singing lol

Also I think it’s a bit stupid to judge how a song sounds live from one performance. How do you know this is how they performed it the other days? The first performances of new songs are always a bit different compared to after it’s brewed for a while, too.

The sound on this (and all the other U-NEXT/whatever distributed shows) is also pretty bad compared to regular Blu-ray releases. And personal opinion, I also hate the letterboxing that this, and some of the other newer, after 2019-ish concerts videos have. Just completely unnecessary and makes it look more amateurish, even if it most likely had the opposite intention of doing.

Yeah ive been following him for like forever now, like many of you others in here, and this EASILY is his worst** hairstyle ever.

To be honest when kyo started his gangsta rap in the beginning I couldnt hold back my laughter, it just sounds so funny/weird. Do you guys enjoy it?

Worst hairstyle instead you mean?

I do indeed enjoy Kyo’s fast singing/rapping.
TDIM is still fresh for me. The tune gets in my head often.

There seems to be some kind of sarcastic / pompous-sounding pattern of comments wrt “do you guys really enjoy this” for anything Kyo-related. I am not a big fan of wherever his projects are heading either, but come on bruh.

I am positive that TDIM will make a quality live song, similar to how Utafumi performances have evolved (!). Perhaps the album version might make whole band vocals more obvious than single version’s (Kyo) gang vocals, and that might manifest more clearly years later (similar to Utafumi, what a banger when performed live)
