DIR EN GREY

I dunno…aesthetics are inherently subjective; what one person finds beautiful, another may see as an eyesore. I’m not sure there is inherent aesthetic significance.

Knowing how Kyo like to crawl out of stuff - it’s only a time when we gonna get Xmas themed PV with Kyo Claus crawling out of the chimney of despair to gift us his spilled guts.

This is visual kei of course, so while aesthetics are everything to this scene I also believe that they are objective. Dir en grey has a clear artistic intent and misinterpretation is tantamount to treason for a toriko.

Oh please, Dir en grey is too serious of a band to ever stoop down to the level of humiliating themselves with a Christmas theme. Besides, it would diminish their use of chimneys as a surrogate for human pain and suffering due to society’s expectations.

if they truly meant to convey chimney through this, he would’ve arrived onstage covered in soot. it truly takes a plebian understanding of their broader worldview to make such an insinuation

Well this is clearly a knot fanservice. You can tell his heart wasn’t truly into it because of how cheap that hat looks.

Because they are best known in Japan perhaps?

I agree that it shouldnt be read into too much. Maybe they just want a rest for a while, do the America dates planned and maybe work on other projects for a while or just take some time out with their families or whatever. They are humans, they can do what they want with their lives and shouldnt be obligated to feel like they have to play all the time because people want them to.

I would be surprised if I saw Kyo performing as Zwarte Piet, ngl.

In the world this insulated it’s important to cherish every hat you can find.

I feel like it wouldn’t be too far off for Kyo to come out onstage in some macabre (pun intended) looking Santa garb one of these days… Taking a page out of the weirdo black metal playbook.

Since the devil in me was used for Terrifier 3… maybe Kyo as Art the clown Santa?

To understand the dark, twisted and mysterious worldview of the band Dir En Grey, it’s fundamental to listen to the songs as sung by an victorian Chimney Sweep

Is there a recording of this? How different is it?

I think there’s a snippet on one of those old VHS/DVDs, should’ve been early 2000s I think.

Shinya said he didn’t play 4 bars of Soshaku lol

Yeah but the song is called “Soshaku”. The translator messed it up in all three tweets about it xD

I feel pretty good about my prophecy of Shinya’s Drumming Regression. As Yoshiki’s power wanes, as does Shinya’s.
