But they don’t use the single audio file during live shows, they use one without Shokubeni.
And of that studio audio file, the end is unknown because it wasn’t released anywhere.
I would say making a claim that no one else knows the answer to and not citing any source what so ever is achieving just that. Unless I’m to take that your word and opinion are the same as dogma or hearing it from the band’s mouths themselves.
One time Dir en grey played GDS at a live show and it never ended. I’m still at that show.
It’s a matter of semantics to me. The studio version of G.D.S. ends at around 3:20 when the guitars kick in, but it’s not a musically satisfying conclusion. That’s not the same as saying the ending doesn’t exist. It does; it’s just abrupt because G.D.S. was never meant to be a standalone song. I think the guitars kicking in with Shinya riding the toms is a cooler ending than anything else I could come up with, so it doesn’t bother me. I listen to that song maybe twice a decade.
So you think Kyo saying “fucker” (or whatever) is part of the studio audio?
I always thought it was live already, the studio audio “ending” around 3:12.
Unfortunately, I don’t know the exact date when Shokubeni was recorded, so I can’t check if a tereko exists ><
But I’m doing just that all the time, on the wiki. So either your trust me there and here that I’m telling the truth, without personally seeing each and every source for every piece of information, or not. That’s up to you, I guess.
I think it’s both. He could have dubbed that in the studio while they took the guitars and other stuff from the live track and mixed it to the end of G.D.S. I would peg the end of G.D.S. around 3:15, but really the “end” of the song just depends on whatever comes next.
I probably didn’t explain what I meant very well.
I mean that, I think what we hear of G.D.S. in the studio track, is all there is. There isn’t anything else missing. They had a live recording of Shokubeni, they created G.D.S. in a way that they could weave it seamlessly into Shokubeni for the release, as well as have as its own file for playback at concerts.
Yeah and how that playback file ends is technically unknown, since it has yet to be released.
I don’t care to trust you/your wiki if someone else can actually confirm what you’re saying or if the information is trivial and inconsequential. But when you make a claim that musicians forgot the title of their own song, which seems incredibly unlikely I’m gonna need a little more than just you saying it’s the case. In fact in this specific case nothing short of the band members themselves saying it would really suffice.
They didn’t forget the name of the song.
They forgot the English words from which they used the first letter of for “G.D.S.”
And mind you, I’m just repeating what they said. They might have very well lied.
Or more specifically Toshiya, since he was the one who said it.
In FOOL’S MATE #274, by the way. Although I’m not sure how knowing the source helps, unless you know Japanese and own that specific issue.
But again, this IS very, very trivial and inconsequential and not “incredibly unlikely” at all.
Kyo routinely forgets the lyrics of his own songs, new and old. And I don’t think people realize how much their live releases are post-edited because one of them messed up a solo or whatever^^
This conversation is kind of weird. GDS is just a constant loop that was clearly made as entrance music for the band. They probably arranged it so that the proper ending is Shinya playing for a few bars and then the guitars kicking in before playing whatever the next song is, especially considering that GDS is still playing when Shinya comes in. Like I’m not inclined to believe there’s much more to GDS than what we’ve already heard.
Opinion time:
The original UROBOROS with the English versions of GLASS SKIN and DOZING GREEN swapped out for the single versions is a 10/10 album.
Note that I don’t hate the remaster, it’s just that the ultra-slick new mix changes the vibe somewhat, and the additions are unnecessary.
i agree completely (except i like the eng versions better ngl) - it’s an album of messy music that should have a messy sound
some things aren’t meant to be looked at clearly imho cuz then they get broken down into being just their parts
Well from my music experience, could just be me but I feel when youre doing something that is purely your own thing and not just being part of a band you do kinda HAVE to put a bit more into it and you’re more invested in it generally.
I like to think I put an equal amount of effort, care, and enthusiasm into my primary band as I do into my solo work. There’s even some songs my band does that, regardless of whether or not I was the primary writer, I feel more excited about than any of my own personal songs. There’s something magical that happens when my two bandmates and I work together, and we create things I could never create on my own.
I guess it could go the other direction for some people though. Where they’ve been in a specific band for so long, and their tastes have diverted from what that band does so much, that they’re just there for the paycheck/what little enthusiasm they still have, but put more effort into their side projects instead.
Anyone know a good shopping service that can get me goods from their anniversary tour?
I really want that hoodie
Looks cool
Has Kyo never written a song?
Kyo has a huge amount of input. Since it can be argued that the actual ‘song’ is the lyrics, vocal line, and melody, technically Kyo has at least had a hand in composing maybe every single DEG song that exists.
Supposedly he solo-wrote 「S」, The Domestic Fucker Family, and HADES.
It’s tough to know exactly who wrote what since Withering to death., since from that album on, they list everything as being composed by the entire band even if it’s not true (e.g. 赫 [Aka] is a Die song,). The only way to figure it out is to read interviews and supplementary materials.
It’s also difficult to know exactly how much each member puts in. In the last few albums (since DSS?), my understanding is that they all write and record parts separately.
