i don’t know much music from quebec but i remember a few years in high school where i was obsessed with loco locass. are they still around? lol
oh my goshhh what a throwback. this made me dig into my CDs, LOL! i honestly have no clue if they’re still kicking it, i sure hope so. how random that you were into them, i love it!! <3
i took a roadtrip up to montreal when i was like 17 and it changed something in me tbh
Yo perfect timing - the other day I mentioned on the discord and somehow @Axius remembered along with me the existence of this very short-lived Vkei band fronted by a Singaporean, Cedo!
Before he was in this band he actually was in a local Vkei mandopop cover band (? please forgive me if it isn’t the most correct label) ethe’Real (异世界). I saw them on TV growing up as a young teen lol.
Here’s them I think um, covering Ayumi Hamasaki I guess. Opening up the link reinstalled some core memories, holy shit. Haha. Unfortunately, I don’t know much because I was just a ween teen lass and I didn’t think to document, search and hoard up enough info about the band…
When I learnt about sForzato it was kind of one of those bands that were part of my early Vkei journey. The first time I heard Kagrra,'s Kaze and GazettE’s Guren was from a local vkei cover band as well.
So echoing what Walnut said, I feel like folks from where we are really only thrive or find ways to thrive once they expand their horizons. But we do have a thriving local scene in some way. Thriving probably not in the purest sense of being able to make a career out of it per se, but when I’m at the local music festival Baybeats sometimes I wonder what could come out of our local acts if there was such a chance to propel them to greater heights.
Unrelated to Vkei, I like stuff by Electrico. One of their songs was kind of composed by a member’s cat who was stepping on their keyboard iirc.
And there’s this one song called Window by Shirlyn Tan ft. The UnXpected that has stuck with me for the longest time.
Gosh I think there isn’t even a properly reuploaded version on Youtube except for a live version but here’s the album on SoundCloud which I should get around to listening…
I just saw a comment comparing her to natalie merchant, I guess it fits.
Pretty much the only music I listen to from my homeland is goth. One of my favourite bands in this genre is Project Pitchfork.
Wow he had a nice vocal. Kinda wasted that he wasn’t popular even during the peak of vkei. For non-vk local artist I like Jasmin Sokko for her songs to visuals she seems quite popular in SEA region
