For the amateur musicians here, who in the vkei/jrock scene are your main inspirations?

For me, Kyo not only inspired me but helped me discover my love for music in general. My other vocal inspirations are hazuki, ruki, mao, sho from [band erased from internet history] and a few others with less influence over me like lime and akane.

I am not a musician, but that’s a great question and I am really curious who everyone looks up to.

Yasu and You from Janne Da Arc, easily.

Satoshi and Nii from Girugamesh

Miya from MUCC

Mizuki and Tsurugi from Sadie

And Kirito, Jun and Aiji from Pierrot

It goes without saying N.T.T. FUCKS wouldn’t be what it is without Akira Nakayama, or Ryutarou Arimura.

Seriously, check out anything off of “horizon dancing below”.

N.T.T. FUCKS is even the old name of Plastic Tree before they became Purachan. We’re also very proud of the roots/influences we have from Angura-Kei/Nagoya-kei bands like Inugami Circus-dan, cali≠gari, and emmuree. Very on the sleeve.

Definitely Kyo, if that much wasn’t obvious.
For composing it’s Mazashi Hamauzu, Uematsu, Eddie Marianukroh

I forgot to mention the band that originally got me into music and Japan, basically altering my entire life, was Mad Capsule Markets. Kaoru says they’re one of his influences too.

In terms of chord work, Reo, Die, and Aoi have been coming out a lot in my work.

In terms of songwriting, Kaoru, Aoi, a mix of influences from K-pop, etc.

Jasmine You was the biggest reason for me wanting to play bass, along with Chiyu (SuG) and Kanon (An Cafe). Vocal-wise Riku of phantasmagoria, Jin of Nega and Temari of Amber Gris played huge roles in helping me find what i liked doing with my voice.

Malice Mizer, Versailles, Lareine, D (Asagi probably is my no 1 inspo in terms of Vocals), Moi dix Mois, E’m ~Grief~, Velvet Eden, Schwarz Stein, Blam Honey, 9GOATS BLACK OUT, probably many more I cannot think of right now. And I would plus one the previous post. Jasmine You was like my favourite musician ever and also the reason I chose bass. Yu~ki from Malice Mizer and Emiru from Lareine as well.

As a guitarist, i’d say

  • Sakito & Hitsugi from Naitomea
  • Aie from deadman
  • Takeshi & Wata from Boris
  • Really anyone who does that Nagoya single coils sound

For vocals,

  • Subaru from Royz
  • Satsuki from Rentrer en Soi
  • Kyo bc ofc

Well, i won’t compare myself to them bc that’s a losing game lol but that’s who i learned from!

uhhhh if anyone felt inclined to check my work here to verify these claims that’d be reaall neaatt

Honestly the groups who inspire me the most to start with music were all of the small indie groups who (seemingly) were self produced.
finding enjoyment in things you could might as well do yourself if you find some friends, gives you a lot of motivation to try and learn an instrument yourself

Those are some nice highs, it’s pretty tough to get the distortion on the highs dialled in.
Here’s one of mine since we’re sharing, I’ve really really enjoyed singing really aggressive petit brabancon stuff lately

now, hear me out : Yoshiki

Even tho he grew up privileged ( until happened what happened ), I just can’t hate him for whatever corny, cringy, capitalistic, egocentric shit he’ve been doing all these more or less recent years.
Taking your rage and grief to transform it into something actually beautiful and artistic rather than self destroy yourself or harm others ( or in a less dramatic way, just follows around your dedicated rat race like everyone ) is such a respectable thing to be totally honest.
And if not thanks to him ( and the other members and all the collaborating contigent ) I don’t think VK would be to the level we know about now.

but kinda eff him for praising AI :face_with_bags_under_eyes: the love hate feeling is real

Hate to break it to you but Japan is probably one of the most capitalist countries and VK aint exactly a cheap hobby either
