Impractical band names

Every band needs it - a name! It’s often the first thing people get to know of a band so you’d think people would choose wisely…

But sometimes I see a band name and wonder why on earth would they choose a name like this.

The worst category is “search engine nightmare”. If you can hardly google a band name that’s… not good for getting famous.

A well known example is D but my favorite case is a japanense idol band called “demo”. That’s absolutely unsearchable “demo band” “japanense band demo”. Even if you know a song title. If it is too generic, no chance.

Second category is a name so long and complicated it’s hard to remember. It’s better than the first category because you might find the band if you remember part of the name. Lookig at you ZigZag :weary:

What bands with impractical names do you know and what do you think are the reasons for choosing such names?

For a while, the most unsearchable band name I knew of was Revive. You could combine it with any word like ‘band’ or ‘vk band’, and you’d just get random results about the revival of a million disbanded bands. Google seems to have this one figured out since then, ‘revive vk band’ works now, but the most certain one is ‘revive vkgy’.

and what about the band Sakashimana Haguruma wo Kamen ga Warau. (逆しまな歯車を仮面が嗤う。)  :smiling_face_with_tear:

Nightmare is a pain to search, both in Roman letters and in Katakana. If you use the band’s katakana name, you still get the same results as you would just by searching “Nightmare” in English. There’s also multiple bands with the name Nightmare, so even adding band after the name doesn’t always help.

Same thing goes for the gazette. If you don’t add band after the name, you get results for a newspaper

there was a now defunct group called The Seeker. they had their song “Sleepless Beauty” featured in the anime Gravitation but their non anime stuff hits soooooo well :sob: but finding it can be hard since you get the who???

Iceman is another one (formed w Daisuke Asakura). you get wrestling???

i could never remember お遊戯ゎが魔々団×【PaRADEiS】's name personally. thankfully it changed to just paradeis and all was well, but it still was annoying finding stuff

404NOTFOUND. In fact i was thinking of another band called something similiar (related via like 5 corners to cali gari? maybe?) but i just can’t find it …

Also you still can’t search for Baiser on Tumblr because it’s a naughty word >:(

Hahaha! That looks very unsearchable :joy:

Everything was going well for the doujin duo Asriel, and then Undertale happened and they got search engine fucked

D used to be okay at least for youtube until ads and algorithms ruined searching.

Zombie is (was?) also annoying. And before they disbanded, Pentagon when a kpop group debuted with the same name. Even searching in katakana would give me the kpop group.

Oh that is unfortunate. That’s really not on them.

I’m adding Erdbeeren to the list. Especially with search engines going by where you are and being in Germany.
