I (OP of the post of reddit - somebody linked me this forum, hello) have never been to a single concert in Japan. I cannot speak on Japan’s concert etiquette or habits. All the vkei/jrock concerts I have attended since 2009 I have attended in Europe. This is not a Japan vs. Europe thing. Nor is it about furi, or “some” people having their phones out. (Nor is vkei the only genre of concerts I attend.)
I think @GreatNorthernVK maybe had picked comments on Twitter up, because I noticed comments on there
Also I am the one who linked you off, I know that kind of stuff often gets discussed in several places.
In regards of phone usage, I have seen those complaints pretty often on r/metalcore too and that usually in connection with bands like Bad Omens, bands that attract a younger audience who somehow seems to miss out any kind of concert knowledge @zeus also mentioned spiritbox who probably suffer from similar audience behavior
Yes, it was definitely more noticeable on Twitter.
But my point is that in the West, people will generally do what they want during concerts. There is no one, unified way to enjoy them.
Nothing of what people have been bringing up about the Dir en Grey, Jiluka etc tours in Europe is in any way unusual, new, or outlandish for the many shows that I’ve been to over the last 20 years (outside of maybe “Skibidi Toilet” girl in Warsaw).
The bands who don’t institute a “no phones” policy don’t seem to mind this fact. They get that the concert culture is different. And really, if you want to make a habit of touring outside of Japan, it’s something that really needs to be understood.
If it were an American band and their fans bagging on how Japanese fans express themselves during shows in their own country, I’d tell them to get over themselves too.
On the train to Cologne (yikes) right now and curious which setlist we’ll get. It’s supposed to be like 25 degrees today, so I assume it will definitely be cozy and warm
Personally, I bought a T-shirt. As far as I can remember they had Tote bags with their logo, small plastic figures with their likeness printed on, also something in a more Manga style (could have been Keychains?). Also cheki.
We got two walls of death and they both worked out haha
People were so chill and you had so much space even during the concert, no pushing or anything. A lot of younger fans who showed up in Lolita dresses etc like it was 2007, loved that because doing this seemed dead for like 15 years. I definitely had a blast!
Never been to a show where the artist plays the same song twice. That’s an interesting choice.
I’m going to their LA show next week out of curiosity, since I don’t really know all their music. I’m curious to see how people respond and what the people in the crowd are like.
Also, yeah, I’ll record probably a minute or 2 of every concert I go to because I do like to go back and watch them. It can be cool to have those things to feel nostalgic. I never put my phone up or on someone’s face tho. That’s just rude.
About the same song twice, I think I’ve seen that more than once recently in Luv PARADE’s setlists. It might not be common but seeing that here didn’t surprise me for that reason.
Most of Jiluka’s success is extremely recent and due to Sena appealing to the trans and lgbt community with his feminine looks on Tik Tok so yes the Tik Tok crowd is mostly who you can expect. If it were not for Sena blowing up on Tik Tok with that community they would still be unknown as they had been for years before. They haven’t changed anything else.
