There is an attached tweet underneath explaining his reasons.
This honestly was not on my 2024 bingo card and I am still reeling a bit. But I think his drive to always keep trying new things and evolving is one of his greatest strenghts as an artist and I respect him so, so much for having the courage to keep doing it. Very excited to see what this new phase will bring.
…I just hope he won’t be picking up any bad habits from Yoshiki
Absolutely shocked that it won’t be Paris, Fra-- oh wait, no i’m not
Good for him nonetheless, was not expecting that either.
btw some of his reasons are that he wants to learn how filming of music productions (I guess mvs?) are done in Hollywood, and that he wants to do vocal training from a Hollywood coach and more importantly, to have a new experience after 30 years in his career.
I would imagine its alot worse in LA.
I lived there for a short time and the only thing you heard 24/7 were people screaming, gun shots, police sirens, ambulance sirens, poop on the street, junkies… the list goes on.
I doubt this is going to change anything. Versailles hasn’t been truly active since 2012 and there has not been any indication that they would be interested in picking up where they left off. Vogue was a nice surprise but esp. with Yuki retiring I do not think a full resumption of activities was in the cards even without Kamijo moving. I am still hoping for another world tour but I am not holding my breath for that either.
I am sure it does. The news sites that reported on this mentioned that a North and South American tours were also being planned so maybe as soon as next year.
I am honestly excited for him and hope he is able to find what he is looking for. My only fear is that between living in LA and going back home he won’t have time for Europe. At least we have France here, Kamijo would not forget about France, right?
LA is hell AFAIK but if he wants to make it as a Hollywood score composer, as he said he dreams of, he’ll have to move there. But I don’t know how his financials work out with his current career being so Japan based an still grossing in a very weak yen. Sounds like a big gamble for him. Hopefully we get some studio upgrades and some cool collabs for his music.
I wonder what drove him to “move his base of operations” to LA. People with money are escaping from that hellhole since its just getting worse and worse. I wrote before too but I actually stayed there just the other day with work, and it was the same thing as always… people screaming during the night, heard multiple gun shots… and then there is trash everywhere on the streets in the morning, the city literally smells like piss. Excuse my language.
Why would Kamijo do that. He has a romanticized image of the city? Its common that japanese people have romanticized views of western countries.
There is btw even a word for japanese people who have a super romanticized view of paris and go there, and become depressed - because everything is just awful.
Lots of Japanese people have romanticized views of the US, especially LA. (I have never been to the US, so this is what I know based on living in Japan and stuff.) Many mainstream actresses and singers move there once they’re “done” with their careers at home. A lot of them come back to Japan later on and talk about how freeing it is to live there and raise kids or something, like how they don’t need to worry about being recognized on the street, they can be themselves, dress however they want, and it’s also “stylish” lol.
My US friends have all told me that LA is trash, but the Japanese expats seem to love the place. Maybe they only live in their little Japanese expat bubble communities and it’s really nice there?
