KAMIJO announces he will be moving his base of operations to LA in 2025

I agree that it must be a huuuuuuge gamble.
I still don’t get it when his main fanbase is in Japan. Concerts (and selling merch there) is one of the main incomes for smaller artists in Japan. Won’t be able to do that anymore… Can he be that rich?
Well hope it works out for him and he doesnt sit there later in LA and asks himself “wtf why did I do this”.

I hope he has enough mitsu who sponsor him now, and even more from the past so that he actually saved money

Maybe, but I honestly doubt that. He has been around the world enough to know better. He stated his reasons pretty clearly and they all seemed quite reasonable to me. He is not moving to the US to pursue the american dream, he is moving specifically to LA where he is the best positioned to learn more about his favourite kind of music. It is something he has wanted to do for a long time and he feels the need for something new to draw inspiration from.

I mean, have you seen his home studio? :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

In all seriousness, I am sure he has thought about it long and hard, financially and otherwise. It certainly was not an easy decision and I can only imagine how scary it was for him to make the announcement. He had an instore event the next day and local fans said he seemed pretty wrecked and like he had been crying.

And it is not like he cannot move back to Japan any time he wants. I am sure it is not an accident that he has not given any spesifics on how long he plans to stay. Maybe it will be a relatively short stint, maybe he will stay for good. I doubt even he knows yet.

However it goes, I am glad he is brave enough to give it a try. I am already planning to go after him if (when) he announces an US tour and I hope all his other fans also continue to support him. He is established enough that I doubt the japanese fanbase will forget about him just because there won’t be as many events as before :woman_shrugging:

His home studio is one of the reasons I thought moving to LA was a weird move. He has all the equipment, collaborators and leverage in Japan. The only reason I could think is switching lanes into movie scoring.

Can’t wait to see in Kamijo’s name in the credits of some shitty c-tier romcom/cop movie

C’mon guys, give him some credit. It will be a C-tier horror movie with vampires at the very least :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

You can laugh all you want but I’m sad he missed the Napoleon biopic. He probably is as well.

I keep imagining him scoring a Hallmark romcom and laughing. The sappiest scene ever, and full metal rock opera blasting on the background

I think it’s more realistic that he’s eyeing the videogame OST genre, which would explain his major label forking out cash for a year-long vampire voyage into the city of decadence (I imagine extra-high heels to avoid stepping on needles will be bought locally.)

in a perfect world it would also mean he’s looking to revive versailles with a movie release dedicated to their artistocratique immortality ~at La Roseraie~ but I’m not holding hopes up (I think they’ll be back after a couple years long hiatus, though.)

That makes more sense tbh, and he already done some stuff for games. “Battle of the Tower”, “heroes third layer” and “361” are all game songs if I’m not mistaken.

But his work are very jrpg-ish, I don’t really see how LA would help him get into the market.

How big is the demand for Kamijo in the US?

if he’s going on a performer visa, he probably could throw a couple sold-out lareine acoustic nights over a year.

if he goes on a student visa, I guess a starbucks full of screaming stans once they figure out his location would be the extent of it?..

He would be more successful at that in Japan, where opportunities already rose for him. He did music for Grasshopper Manufacture’s LET IT DIE. Im sure he could land a work in other projects if he put himself to it.

interesting…I actually don’t remember his music in that game, althought I didn’t really play a lot of it, and I don’t remember if lobby radio in there opened new songs as the game progressed or not.

VK acts tend to do videogame collabs once in a while, vistlip would be another name associated with vidya; and jinkaku radio infamously flunked on a square-enix feature when their pre-disband drama happened.

his style would be perfect in some high gothic soulsborne-like thing since this vg trend is still v. much alive, I think.

Videogame OSTs, isn’t Japan perfect for him? he has that sound that could be perfect for jrpgs. There must be many opportunities in Japan.

I am gonna jinx/do a hot take on this this - Kamijo will be back in Japan in less than one year after the move.

Everyone who played the game surely listened to it A LOT since I t played on a difficulty spike on floor 11 or 16. It was a sniping miniboss IIRC. It was featured as a b side on Symbol of the Dragon if memory serves.

Maybe itwas added to the radio if you beat the boss?

Absolutely. I’m also under the impression that if he called the Bloodstained devs or if Konami gave Castlevania another chance they’ll gladly have him.

It was Battle of the Tower -16-, it was featured on Castrato.

Well I would say if he is Yoshiki’s friend he could maybe use his yet… BUT Yoshiki never stops traveling so it would be a little bit difficult

Well Yoshiki really should rest but he is so hyperactive that it would be impossible… We hope Kamijo don’t do the same

I was referring more to his tendency to promise all kinds of things and rarely deliver anything. As to overworking, I don’t think Kamijo has an off-button either so I am just hoping the king gets some rest sometimes and that it is enough :face_holding_back_tears::pray:
