Kei (ex.Dio -distraught overlord- guitarist) has announced he has been diagnosed with stage 3 stomach cancer in February 2024. He has posted statements in Japanese and English on his Twitter, linked below.

i wish him the utmost best, this was heartbreaking to read. to echo what @zeetabyte said, it’s amazing to see how much he’s fighting. i hope he has had a good support system throughout this!!

I just came across this on Twitter and I am so sad DIO was a huge part of my teenage years and I think I have everything they ever released. I absolutely adored them and their first live in Finland is still one of my absolute fondest memories.
I am desperately hoping he can overcome this

I listened to DIO a lot back when their “Dictator” album came out. I really with Kei a healthy recovery

Does anyone know how he’s doing atm? His most recent X post was in the beginning of March, stating that he participated in a clinical trial with a new medication for his condition (if I remember correctly) but it’s been silent on his profile ever since.

Oh literally the other day I was going to come back there to ask the same thing.. I’ve been visiting his profile from time to time again and again and I couldn’t see any recent post from him

We regret to inform you that Kei, guitarist of Dio, passed away on May 7th after approximately one year and three months of battling illness.
A private funeral service was held on May 15th with only close family members in attendance.
We sincerely apologize for the delay in sharing this news, as it has taken time for us to come to terms with this deep sorrow.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the kindness and support he received during his life, and we share this news with the utmost respect.
