MUCC (ムック)

Is there a MUCC general topic? If not, maybe we can create one?

edit: i created it, so feel free to move the conversation there!
So, Allen isn’t going to paris :frowning:

I think today’s gig with mama was the last one with Allen, fans and band members were very used to him, sad news for the fandom, good news on him for taking the step with his new band!

Active since 1997 without pauses, formed in Ibaraki prefecture, MUCC is emerging as one of the longest-running and most influential bands in the Visual Kei scene. Although they are generally classified in the Misshitsu kei subgenre, the band has demonstrated great musical and visual versatility. Nu metal influences, implementation of electronic sounds, jazz, pop, etc. They are very active, participating in concerts with other bands, both veteran and new. They have a great history of making tributes and covers within visual kei, as well as paying homage to sounds and aesthetics of the past.

They have 18 studio albums to date (2025)
The current lineup is
Tatsuro on vocals (+ Tatsuro solo works)
Miya, leader, on guitar (+Lead guitar in Petit brabancon)
YUKKE on bass (+ Bass in session band happy farm)

Support members
– on drums
Tooru Yoshida on Keys

Former members
Hiro on bass (1997 -1999)
satoCHI on drums (1997 -2021)

Its OK we forget about Tatsuro’s Karasu…but lets not forget Miya’s Gekigakutai :joy:

Totally true! :joy: me owning Lastica and totally forgot about karasuuuu, pioneering super bands before TLRS!

But in that senseX suginami counts too!

I think I always forget about X suginami as they only have that DT, I almost bought for a nice price but ended up totally forgeting about it :joy:

Im also guilty of owning Karasu’s both releases , but besides the time they were released…I dont think Ive ever listened to them again. Gekigakutai on the other hand, was quite enjoyable imo.

Actually, i think it’s a good news for the band. Curious to hear who gonna replace him

Concerning Allen’s departure:

Apparently they have known about it for a while and they wanted to do a last live for him, but couldn’t find a venue in that short time :frowning:

Is probably that he informed the band a few months ago, and since it’s the end of the year season, venues must be all booked, very very sad he didn’t get to have a proper farewell live.

Its a shame because he looked like fitted good with them. After almost 25 years with Sato for sure wasnt easy to get into that position, hope they find someone stable and they dont start with many different support drummers.

Yes, fans were a bit reluctant to let a new drummer join, but later, as Sato cannot leave that musicians circle ( he runs his gym together wit Daishi from Psycho Le Cemu) there were cute interactions between the two, like Allen getting a muscle Sato standee as a lucky charm

I believe the band requires that kind of stability too for their new support drummer, is kinda the band dynamics and as you said, the longevity makes it difficult to get used to too many rotational support musicians.

Someone on reddit translated some recent interviews. In the first one Tatsuro talks about PB, Hazuki and a potential band with aie LOL

Apparently Yorukaze was supposed to be the single but Tokuma chose Never Evergreen:

What about “Yorukaze,” written and composed by Miya?

I thought the feel of the melody and the riff was really interesting, it left a strong impression. The Japanese-style melodic quality is good, too, and honestly, I thought this might end up being the title track. But he really went all-in on summery lyrics (laughs).

If we were still indie and making all the decisions ourselves, I feel like we would’ve said, “Well, the seasonal feel’s off, but whatever,” and made it the title track anyway. The decision to go with “Never Evergreen” was made by the people at Tokuma, so I don’t actually know the concrete reason.

There’s this one too https://www.reddit.com/r/MUCC/s/9HtCS4OT3i

And two with Miya

As we speculated, it was a corporate decision from the label.

And that tatsuro answer, very much them. They just barely care about the seasonal marketing for a release xD.

I’m curious what kind of music would come out if aie and I formed a band. He’s in about a hundred bands already (laughs), so adding one more to make it 101 wouldn’t change anything, right? Like, “Want to do the 101st one with me?”

lmao he’s got a point.

Interviews like this make me wonder if bands themselves actually like going major or not. sure you get a bigger budget, but so many decisions get made by corporate. i wonder how many of the recent choices that i’ve disagreed with actually came from the band itself.

Well… I guess the result didnt impress them too much. I have the feeling the Tokuma adventure wont last long.

It was 100% the label’s call so it’s 100% on them.

Too lazy to look it up again, but I think it was Tatsuro who mentioned/implied that they indeed do choose/compose songs as a title track for a single and that they have a different vibe from the rest of the albums. I found that quite interesting (even though it’s obvious haha)

I always get hyped for new Mucc releases. One of my (the) OG bands that still is active. Not many left now.

By the way I’ve been listening to some old songs recently.
D・f・D really has to be one of their best songs. That mini from 11 years ago is really solid overall but that banger damn, Miya’s songwriting at his finest.

Also starting to think that Hane is one of their most beautiful ballads. That one or Tsubasa.

The other day I sat and worked and listened to “Mukashi Datta Kodomotachi e” for 4-5 hours nonstop. That song will always have a special place in my heart. Also if you look up the (translated) lyrics for it, they are really good :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Their old ballads/slow songs were really TOP, and Houyoku I feel is just such an underated album from them…I guess many ppl werent ready for the “change”.

I still regularly listen to Houyoku. I probably listen to a song from that album everyday. Not one skippable song for me :face_with_peeking_eye:

Oh yes I agree, I tend to listen houyoku, 6 and Hokusai, all in a block, their 2005/6 pretty much a huge change with a fresh air music and songs that they still play today at lives.
