Been a while since I installed Linux on bare metal, but I dusted off an old laptop and got Ubuntu running on it. I’ve been reading a lot of mumbling from disgruntled techies online about various reasons for switching away from Windows 11 to Linux in general.
It really isn’t as seamless as a ton of these posts are making.
I know what I’m doing and even I got turned around a few times. The installation aborts the first time because BitLocker is on. I turn it off (this took two hours), and then install Ubuntu Studio 24.04 on it. Installation finishes, I restart, and no boot loader can be found.
Great.
Dig around and it’s because the boot mode is “Legacy” but the installer is expecting “UEFI”. So I switch the settings in the BIOS and reinstall Ubuntu Studio again.
Then it goes into a boot loop because it expects to boot from \efi and it’s booting from \boot instead. Cue going into the BIOS and setting a custom boot order to point to GRUBx64 so that I don’t have to press F9 and manually select Ubuntu each time.
At this point, I’m finally in. And if you got lost at any point during reading all that, this is why Linux is still not ready to dethrone Windows on the desktop. But now I have something usable for ripping my vinyl collection.
…as soon as I get a new CMOS battery, a new laptop battery, and the new SSD, and then repeat the above steps again
I genuinely wish I could find Maria Cross’s albums for sale somewhere. my neighbour and i have an awful music war going on and i desperately need to one up them
until then, i will have to settle for youtube recordings…
also, i went to go hang with some friends at a picnic and my bff invited this girl who we all had a falling out with saying that she’s changed. she hasn’t every single word thst comes out of her is negative and she legitimately believes she is a god/above everyone

(name redacted seiyuu <3 ) played together with Hiroto recently so I assume (redacted) is back to jrock … Gackt returns when (redacted) returns and its funnier bc they went on a hiatus at the same time before … the plot thickens (they were seiyuu in an anime together @ Gackts weeb era, so theres great fanfic to be written about it, too bad its not 2006)
what reminded me of here: wanting to see wtf is up with Hiroto x Takeru (what IS that project idgi)
otherwise same old mental illness sucks when in doubt ask myself WWASD or would a treat fix me etc. apparently now its cool to be mentally unwell, enjoy vk and wear frilly clothes (again, that’s just 00s lolita 2.0) though so that makes me cool for being that before it was cool right B) (‘no’ well)
I don’t know if this helps you, but according to wikipedia:
CrowdStrike reverted the content update at 05:27 UTC. Devices booted after the update was reverted are expected to not be affected.[2] The official workaround for affected machines is deleting the %windir%\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike\C-00000291*.sys files in safe mode[6], which requires manual application.[7][8]
As of 09:45 (UTC), a fix has been deployed, according to the CEO.[9][10]
A crazy fact of life. My family has become my children and I am their mother and father. Older adults (40-50) can’t support themselves emotionally or financially. While younger adults (25-30y), in my case, have to do a million things and remain strong and still living alone in a foreign country for years
