I’m not sure where the wave of schoolboy LARPing bandmen with pastel bowlcuts would otherwise flood from… which coincidentally lasted a lot longer than many other neo-VK fads, and even major and well selling bands like diaura would slip a normie-looking member now, with some optional crazy ear things going on for extra edge.
I think the smattering of the changes in style (for vk) likely happened by proxy with the popularity of the Japanese-Korean joint idol groups that “recently” spawned off Produce 101, etc. along with the increasing awareness and popularity of K-pop in general. I still believe the vast majority of homegrown groups still appeal to the Japanese “sense” though both musically and stylistically.
I feel like we’re still mostly in the futuristic/prince-shtick -era, which vk is kind of siphoning off of atm. Granted, I’ve seen a handful of promo pics that’ve straddled the line from a native Japanese group or two.

When I was younger, I always wondered why Arabic money was called Deer-Ham when muslims don’t eat pork and deers don’t seem to exist in the middle east. Nowadays, I think it would have made for an interesting currency.
