The sad part about all this is that his fans are gonna continue to give him money for whatever reason. I’m not sure crowdfunding II is gonna be as succsessful as his previous ones, but I am sure it’s gonna be great nonetheless.
It’s ridiculous.
Onto something positive (in my ears): Lowest Creature. Crossover thrash in the vein of Power Trip, Inhuman Nature, Enforced, Forseen, High Command etc. Released their second album, Witch Supreme, last year and it’s so good. Dark, heavy, catchy and fun. Their debut album was good, but this album see them mature as singwriters, and see them going into a landscape which sets them apart from their peers. Easily among my top 10 albums for 2023.
According to Spotify I am collecting Russian bands in my listening recently.
I guess Bite the Goat is the latest addition.

Sovereign - Altered Realities
Dear me, what an album! Sci-fi death/thrashthat makes me think of albums like Nocturnus - The Key, Pestilence - Consuming Impulse, Chemical Breath - Fatal Exposure, and with some hints of old Sadus and Sepultura. It’s superb in every way, and it’s probably gonna end up as a contender for AOTY for me personally. 9,5/10 after 15-20 plays, but it just gets better with every listen.
Vemod - The Deepening
Vemod’s debut album, 2012’s Venter på stormene, was a masterpiece of beautiful and ethereal black metal, and the band’s sophomore album is no worse than its predecessor. Beautifully atmospheric and ethereal. I’ve seen a few say it’s more post-punk and dark wave-y, but I don’t hear that myself. If anything I’d say it sounds slightly more Alcest-influenced, without being close to Alcest overall. The album’s fantastic! 8,5/10
It’s been a great start to the year for sure.
My most anticipated heavy metal album of the year, easily.

I agree! Attic is so good, and they always find a way to stay relevant without really chaning up too much. New song is top notch, and it might be their smot Kind Diamond-esque track till now. Lacks the vocal finesse of the king himself, but it’s still fantastic.
Some stuff I’m looking forward to:
From the upcoming Hirax album Faster Than Death. Judging from this track this track this might end up being their hardest and most aggressive release since Hate, Fear and Power. And easily their best since Blasted in Bangkok from 1997.
Vulture - Sentinels
No preview from this yet, but they got three masterpieces to their name, so I expect this to be among this year’s top 10. One of the best modern metal bands out there imo.

Thanks so much for the Vulture mention, man! If you hadn’t written about that upcoming album I don’t know when or how I would have been informed of it (I’m having a bit of trouble keeping up with the more underground acts sometimes). Everything they released so far was solid, so can’t wait!!
I just found out that Voodoo Kungfu released a new mini album called ‘Blackened Lovecraftian Metal’ about a month ago, and I think it’s awesome. Kind of a different style than their previous release, much more electro-infused, but still all extreme metal.

It’s warming up and plants are starting to bloom here, so I suppose it’s time to share some black metal albums I really enjoyed this past winter.

I must say, the new Vulture album is pretty dang fine on first listen! Just what I expected, cool razor-sharp old-school metal. 
Also, I finally checked out the new Attic album too, which I was looking forward to for a long long time now, but sadly it didn’t really grab me at first. But I’ll be sure to spin it more in the future, I still dig their style.

Man, this shit goes hard. Black metal/punk in the vein of Devil Master and Cape of Bats, with hints of G.I.S.M. It’s very Castlevania-esque, which is really cool. I fuck with this hard!
