Legendary J-rock band, the pillows, active since 1989 (35 years), have officially called it quits after their live at KT Zepp Yokohama on 1/31.
They are best known for providing the soundtrack to the FLCL (Fooly Cooly) anime.

holy…fuck…
They ran their course and have sooo much music, so it’s fine.
This is how you go out! While on top! Or as close to it as possible.
This feels like the end of an era for me because The Pillows are the band who got me into J-Rock in 2004.
I didn’t keep up with the Pillows after OOParts. I’d check in on them every 3-5 years; but nothing hit me like their early material did.
I guess I’ll have to give it another go.
So weird. I saw someone comment somewhere that they went to the gig at Zepp Yokohama and apparently they acted normal. One member apparently was joking how they’re not playing their singles/popular songs this night but b-sides/rare tracks. I wonder why they didn’t do a last live/last tour or at least announce it before or at the gig.
I remember when I was a gross and budding weeb and they were all the rage, so I bought one of their albums to try out (having only listened to Jpop anisongs previously). Hated every second of it lol.
20 years later and now that I actually listen to real music… I bet I’d like them.
absolute legends
Been a minute since i listened to em. But Happy Bivouac from what i remember was a banger album. Sucks that they’re done but it seems like they had one hell of a run. Best of luck.
