Most of them really.

Most of them really.
Kouki from D=OUT
Ohh was thinkinf of Jin too ! I love NEGA’s music and his voice fit the whole thing but it’s unsual indeed ! He was cool in TBS too
Ok You’re right lol
This must be one of the MVs I watched the most in Visual kei lol I remember every frame and gestures. But Kagerou and Daisuke fit well in the thread honestly !
Now prepare the pitchfork folks because I’m going to say the name
Clears Throat
KYO
Yeah, I realize that I didn’t really like his falsetto and high notes. in fact that is probably the reason why I avoided Sukekiyo for so long because from a few songs I heard, he barely ever scream on Sukekiyo. Maybe it’s my bias that I tend to gravitate towards vocalist with lower range like RUKI and HAZUKI. His Screams on the other hand are a different story though, that Banshee scream never ceases to amaze.
Most definitely Ryuka (龍華) (Ex-DEPAIN, SAVAGE). He has that nasally high pitch to his voice that can be unsettling for some people.
And also i would say Saku from Gossip. I know his voice isn’t for everyone.
… anyway …
o wait wait wait i didnt know he was hot , dam uh this changes everything
(this is a shallow, careless opinion for anyone confused)
i’m going to make it a moral imperative every time i fight for yoshiki’s honor now.
Anyway, for VK vocalists…I almost feel like VK vocals at large are an acquired taste. obvs there’s a lot of variety, but the tropes and mannerisms can be a little much if you don’t have the taste for them. For me it’s usually pretty immediate whether or not a VK vocalist will land with me.
Outside of VK I’ve always thought Heaven in Her Arms has super weird vocals, especially early on. That used to be a bit of a roadblock for me with their music, but they’ve evolved & I’ve gotten more context for hardcore, so it isn’t as much of an issue for me now. Took some time though!
Sono from Matenrou Opera anyooneee ?
( now that the main subject of the thread changed to a more emotionally intelligent one I can gladly name my favourite artists who just have an unsual voice yeay )
Anyway, my affection for Sono ( as a singer ) and M O is immense ! But I can understand that it’s not to everyone taste
( and he’s super mega charming too wuuh )
Love this performance
And his incredible covers too !
The vocalist from Mother Goose comes to mind immediately. It’s hard to explain just how… strange, this guy sounds. Some kind of squeaky frog is my best description. Just to be clear I am a fan, but still, definitely an acquired taste.
I know someone who’s not going to make a friend. There is a big fan of MOTHER GOOSE here (not me i specify).
Hakuei toned everything down for the latter part of LSN (I don’t listen to him or Penicillin) including his singing style so I imagine he finally reached the expiration date.
Same way Lareine era Kamijo always had an expiration date. Kamijo’s was shorter because had got a naturally deep voice pushing higher and Hakuei just had a higher voice and wasn’t really pushing as much.
Honestly… kinda same. Kyo is one of my favourite vocalists ever, but the falsetto and high notes don’t always work for me. Especially live, I don’t think he always nails them.
Agree with this too; it takes some getting used to. I often still struggle with the vibrato even though I’ve been listening to VK for like over 20 years lol
he’s one of my all time vk MVP singers, but his simpler, less ovErDrAMaTiQqQqQqQ singing style in jeniva >>>>>>>>>> most of matenrou opera tbh
I feel like he has better control of his voice in their current era (roughly after the double pantheon album when some members left and they paused releasing until new members joined)
The WaAaAaAaaAAAAves are not for everyone for sure weird enough, i’m usually not a big fan of overly dramatic singing but Sono is a lil exceptions.
Broke my heart when Anzi ( one of my all time favs ) and Yu left but M O are one of the very super rare bands who stayed at the same level, with the same good music ! like a phoenix !
Chill from kaneto juusei. He a cute, tiny little midget man but his voice sounds meh
I love Kuroyume but when I first heard them I found Kiyoharu’s over exaggerated vibrato a lot to handle! Appreciate it much more now though as it’s pretty unique to him and is a distinctive part of Kuroyume’s music!
Kiyoharu sounds like sheep
Most kote-kei vocalists
I keep saying he sounds like a cursed speaking toy don’t count my opinion, I also love Lucas Lanthier and Andi Sexgang, it’s another level of sense
Eiichirou’s voice when he’s speaking as also a bit (not a bit?) deformed but… idk… charming? Enchanted??
here’s also a tragic background of his voice but it’s a bit private knowledge. Not going to tell you “MAKE A RESEARCH!!!”, it’s absolutely normal not to like it!
I love Kiyoharu but he definitely is an acquired taste. His singing is completely unintelligible. He doesn’t do it as much for Kuroyume, but his solo stuff? Good luck figuring out what he’s singing unless you have the lyrics in your hand.
It’s so bad that last year, a Japanese TV program did a segment where they locked 2 guys (comedians) in a room until they could figure out the lyrics to Kiyoharu’s new song at the time. iirc they took like 30 hours or something and the man himself showed up towards the end.
(This is a preview bc the whole episode isn’t available on YouTube)
